The mega work thread

My dad and I bought a business, a little store in Utah not that far from the border. We took it over a week ago, we were supposed to have done so the first of October, but we hit a couple of snags.

I work as a cashier at the store, it's pretty cool I haven't had any troubles so far, none that were too bad. Instead of listening to a tape that loop I get to listen to my cd player, provided it's quite enough so the customer doesn't have to scream at me to get my attention. I haven't yet I prefer to read and draw.

You have my pity...

We are entering into a recession...

Obama is going to tax the fuck out of small business... much like the Labour Government has done in the UK...

If the business manages to net more than 250k profit in their first year, then I think they can handle the taxes that come their way.

As for me, I the hold people's hands while they try to make use of a buggy piece of software. Most of the time I'm telling them how to do basic stuff they should already know, the rest of my problems are either due to program needing more work, or inherent problems due to the company's business model. In short, I need a new job.

My living is based on a combination of generous parental allowance, minimum wage restaurant work and occasional DJ-ing. I also sell pins and random shit on eBay every once in a while.

I'm still a student so I don't have the time for full time employment. At the moment I have a few "jobs" but the hours are quite irregular as they only call me in if needed. I sometimes do some welding at a friends garage, or I wash beer glasses at a bar.

The people I work with are great, though one asked if I was okay when I was okay when I was spinning around on the floor palying air guitar, while listening to some AC/DC.

I work in a warehouse assembling and packing welding masks. Not a spectacular wage but more than the minimum. I'm not intelligent enough to do anything else apart from waitressing and there aren't any suitable part time evening jobs for that around here since my old place of work closed down.

I'm not intelligent enough to do much more than I'm doing now, though, I'm sure I could be a radio personallity. Check it out... "Helloooo America this is the Duke of Rock, the Baron of Darin, and the lord of Zane Zaney Duane!! We have a long block of 'DC tunes for you with a bit of Sabbath, Priest and the led comin your way!"

Yeah.... I so want to be a radio personallity or whatever.

I'm not a dog, either... you want to get my attention, say the magic words. "Excuse me, sir." "Could you service me, sir?", don't whistle at me...

Ugh. I hate it when people whistle.
And we're not creeps when we won't let you out of the store through the garden centre when the garden centre is closed.
And we don't care if you have shares in the store. If you're a fucking jerk, we're certainly not going to be more than civil. And stating that you're a shareholder before you say anything else automatically qualifies you for fucking jerk status.

I hate customers. I wish I could just hide in my studio and paint instead of having to fund my art habits with retail jobs.

Though I can't say I'd like people saying "Can you service me?" either. My mind is too dirty for that.

I hate call center jobs when I have to deal with people who didn't pay and got their services shut off, particularly when I worked for Rogers.

I actually had a fourty year old man throw a tantrum on the line with me. "I WANT MY CABLE AND I WANT IT NOW!"

BAHAHAHA. People being addicted to cable. I only get what I get on the bunny ears.

This is a bit of idiocy on my part: there was a guy at the garden centre who wanted one of the pots of garden mums that were out front on the sidewalk. He asked "If I want one of the mums, how do I get one?" and I responded with "Ummm... you buy it?"
What he actually meant was "Do I pay for it now and then pick it up on my way out to my car, or do I bring one in and pay for it?"
