Recipe calls for black people
Quote:
SYDNEY – An Australian publisher is reprinting 7,000 cookbooks over a recipe for pasta with "salt and freshly ground black people."
Penguin Group Australia's head of publishing, Bob Sessions, acknowledged the proofreader for the Pasta Bible should have picked up the error, but called it nothing more than a "silly mistake."
The "Pasta Bible" recipe for spelt tagliatelle with sardines and prosciutto was supposed to call for black pepper.
"We're mortified that this has become an issue of any kind and why anyone would be offended, we don't know," he told The Sydney Morning Herald for a story printed Saturday.
"We've said to bookstores that if anyone is small-minded enough to complain about this ... silly mistake, we will happily replace (the book) for them."
The reprint will cost Penguin 20,000 Australian dollars ($18,500), but books already in stores will not be recalled because doing so would be "extremely hard," Sessions said.
There was no answer at Penguin's offices Sunday.

I think its absolutely hilarious, but its lame of them to pretending to not know why people are offended, or say people who don't want a book that suggests cannibalism are just small minded.

I don't believe they think that privately, but it's exactly what you want your PR people saying ... especially if it was an innocent, unintentional mistake. No sense inviting a crucifixion if you don't deserve it.
Although, that is one hell of a misspelling. I don't think a spell checker would make that mix-up if you missed one or two letters. I wonder if it was an intentional joke included by some editor or proofreader along the way, and they just forgot to correct it before going to press. Hmmm....

Actually a spellchecker would, given the right misspelling, for example
peope
the letter "o" is right next to the letter "p", so that would be a simple typo, then all you would have to do is forget the "r" at the end and the first result you would get would be people.

That would make sense, as I would assume the cook book had testers who should have picked up on that, so it probably got put in after the book was being edited.

Hey Saya, mind if I come over and pinch half a cup of grounded black people from your pantry? The grocer said they were clean out.

I don't see why it would be offensive. I mean, if they actually wanted to cook and eat people, that'd be offensive to some.
Typos aren't offensive. They're typos.

Ophelia, we live in an age when people are easily offended, quick to profess their hurt and anger, slow to admit their guilt, oblivious to what they should be ashamed of and generally isolated and self-focused to a level unknown to previous generations. But I have been accused of being too optimistic.

You're only ever offended because you choose to be. If you chose to be offended by a typo in a cookbook, then you need to get out more often...
