Sound System

I haven't seen a thread on peoples' equipment they use to listen to their music. Some people have a big system in their living room.
Some can't live without their headphones. Some have gotten really elaborate and build amplifiers with tubes in them, then piped the sound to it from a computer! Some are fine with a tiny mono speaker in their clock radio.
But there are some who like their MP3 Player just fine.

What your fav?

I just have a fairly plain stereo, two speakers plus a subwoofer.

I have a Sony STR-D365 Amp.
For speakers, I have two Audiospheres in the front,
and two Allegro 3000 in the rear. The two front ones sat a little low so I handcrafted some sturdy plywood stands in the family woodshop.
All in all, it is a okay sound system. Nothing spectacular.

I have my computer hooked to it with a long cxable from the other room. I keep all my music on it. It sounds wonderful. Not bad for a poor guy hehe!

Here’s a kind of funny story about the amp. There was a dollar store in a mall a block from my home and they were going out of business. So they sold everything. I mean everything, like the shelves, security cameras, and mop! They hollowed that sucker out! Most stores have a large array of tinny speakers around the store that play music all day.

Well, as I was leaving the store I noticed on the counter the amplifier they used with the store speaker system. I bought it from them for $30. The power button was smashed in and I had to open it and repair it. I cleaned the front and it looks good I hooked my speakers to it and it sounds beautiful! Later, I added two speakers in the rear for quadraphonic sound, yay!

So when people ask where I got my amp, I say that I got it at a dolor store!

It's my first real woodworking project since I was a kid.
Me and my uncle made two of these.
http://tinyurl.com/68ewe3
The idea was to copy a firends factory made piece of crap, but I modified the wobbly design of his with the "I" beam shape.
I did my best. All I wanted was a set of speaker stands.

I will cover the scew heads with wood filler and spray paint the whole thind semi-gloss black.

God, I really need to pratice two things; making cool threads and typing properly! "firends" was meant to be "friends".

I have my laptop and a pair of 50-watt Sony powered speakers. When I'm out of my apartment I use my PSP for music.

What I would love to do if I could justify the expense would be to get a Shuttle D10, throw in a better power supply, sound card, and 1TB hard drive, then load it up with Ubuntu, Elisa, and a bunch of FLAC files. With a good amp and speakers, it would make one sweet home stereo system!

An old (manual thing says 2000 on it) Panasonic SCAK - 44. I bought it years ago after saving pocket money, christmas money and birthday money for ages haha. I think it's around 300W. Two built in subwoofers. Fits 5 CDs but usually it's plugging into my laptop.

When I'm out I use my Archos 20gb mp3 with Sennheiser MX200 earplugs.

My home stereo consists of a Rotel RA-921 Amp. A Pioneer CT-S5505 Tape Deck. A Sony CDP- XE530 CD player and a Sony ST-SE500 Radio. Topped off with Custom Speakers made by my father. The rest I picked up at a garage sale for 50€

I found this utility that will clean up mp3's of old records and casettes.
It works real good to clean up a recording from a damaged tape.
It is called "Spin It Again".
I use it on anything that has a quality problem.

I moved recently, and in addition to a new tv i treated myself to the B&W Zeppelin iPod speakers, which is now my primary sound system in the house.

I don't know the specs, on paper the amount of watts and whatever don't sound too impressive, but it sounds really, really good. And I like the way it looks!

In my car I have a pretty good system, I don't have the specs again.
I remember getting a smallish subwoofer so that it wouldn't require an extra amp, and two Magnat speakers (250 watt each if memory serves) in the rear in addition to the crappy front speakers that came with the car.

I'm sure I couldn't compete with the big boys but for me it's more than enough.

Onkyo TX-SR805 Receiver
3 Polk full sized speakers in front
3 Sony bookshelf speakers in back
Panasonic Blu-Ray which I use as DVD player and CD player
iPod which I have a cable to hook into the amplifier
Sony Turntable from the mid-80s for Vinyl goodness
HDMI lead to my computer so I can send music and movies to the amp
A Toshiba VHS deck
Also a Mitsbuishi 720p projector that's tied into the whole system but that's not really sound.

I love that old tube sound, and the cheerful warm glow.
Mmmmmmm!
I hope that they would figure away to replicate that warm "tube sound" with solid state hardware. I bet it could be done with some little pre-programed computer chip.

I have my Macbook, a pair of broken headphones and a 1GIG MP3 player I got for free when I bought a printer.

Though anything plus VLC at 400% is good enough for me and the MP3 player makes me choose what bands I really like and want to have with me.

I have a massive pair of speakers for my pc.
I want to rig up the speakers for my stereo as well but I'm not too sure how.
Oh and I have a 16GB iPod my girlfriend got me for Christmas,
I barely leave the house without it.
I hate walking without music.

Wow! That is so nice of him! My dad had kept a milk crate full of records from when he was 18. Lots of rick and roll and other popular stuff from the 60's and 70's. He had good taste in music. Not as good as mine, but good.

He let me have them, the whold box! He didn't care about them.
After a few years, we couldn't get along. He kicked me out when I was 17, and after I got some of my things back, I found out he had lied and really did thow out some of my things!

A few of the things he garbaged meant alot to me.
He threw out my beautiful RCA tube radio set, my Hi-fi VCR, my vintage record player and a load of other goodies that I used and enjoyed. I stumbled across a site just this year, and from that I read, that radio he threw out was worth some CASH!

I hate that man, and there is no apology or regrets from him about what he did with my shit or to me. Even after all this time.
I begged his forgivness for not having premium grades and not waking up on time in the morning, but he just absorbs it all and give nothing back.
