Mythology, the end of reality

I wrote a mythology based on greek allegory and 19th century Romantic atmosphere and symbolist theory.
It was mainly written as a sculptor, these images are intended for classical depiction, also for oil paintings for instance.
English is not my first language, however a professionally edited version is available. Text sumbitted here is not edited. Even if i deserve it, does one really need to fence about technicalities and never for once actually use any possible empathy for imaginary universes in this day?
I don't think these kind of ideas will come across to anyone here really, the general population seems rather modern and neo avant garde, very dear to the ideas of irony and sarcastic scepticism over most things.
I'll just post, I'm always going to be surprised no matter what.
...
Allegory of inspiration.

A war of muse, one sky of fire and fierce army’s stream violantly into one another, beneath it is one gorge, an obscure canyon with a black river, in it knights escort one muse of melancholy. the knights battle eachother as they drift deeper into the canyon,…
The river turns a black ocean, as the last knights die out, the muse is now alone, and cries, in her tear, runing in a long river far away grows the imaginary world,...

Allegory of creation
In the imaginary world a kiss is staged of two Goddesses, out of the kiss grows matter, and the world. Hethis the Spirit God of imagination condemns the Goddesses that staged the kiss...

Allegory of imagination.
Axis the patron of the imagination is locked behind a gate, with a horde of Taurus, Bulls and bisons, she is later set free by a daughter born out of the tear of the first muse, Nhaevrael, she drifted trough the ocean, seduced by a singing, and called back by her sisters not to fall prey to the songs of the gate, Nhaevrael will arrive at the gate and open it by touching a set of strings, of a lyre crafted into the gate, the gate rips open and Nhaevrael is run over by the stampede bursting trough the gate...

Allegory of dreams.
Helix and Antihelix each in their turn petrified into marble statues each to mourn over the other and wake, as the other sleeps in the stone.

Allegory of perception.
Ayris, is thrown behind the walls and endowed to hold matter, she is the guardian of perception, holds reality so ones mind does not cave in, into the darkness behind it.

These four Goddess form the equation of the senses that hold matter.

There is the war over the soul and venom of the poets between Melancholy, of grief and woe, and The Goddess of hate; the Goddess of creativity and passion, called Hethred,... Hethred, seperated from Melancholy, by the matter grown out of their kiss, longeus still for melancholy, and treats and punishes the world as an unwanted creation, antimother as she is, her womb is of acid, a black widow spider lives there, and crawls to her stumoch and out of her mouth, to weave hethreds daughters.

The poets strong will, embodied in a poetesse that offended Hethred, cursed to turn to rats, cats and serpents, now drink blood from Hethreds daughters to stop them turning into animals, for this they hold salons on earth, to attract her daughters with grotesque and sublime decorative beauty.

There is a muse ELhende born deep in a well, in a land where visiters to this land petrify, only few reach this well. Ellendeh, she learns to whisper and dream in her solitude, she is picked up by a carriadge lowered in the well, carried by demons, she is flown to somber swamps to a temple, where one poet, Alas, writes down her whispers and visions...
Alas, taken away his army for Hethreds concerns reality would grow and they would build newer worlds, breaks the sword to lead the Rothhalm army inprisoned at the center of the earth, born king, now he becomes a poet, he writers poems to seduce all the Angels of the northern continent, and fails.

The world ascends in obscurity as the light behind the mountains grow dim. The people of this ailing civilisation, built a giant column with a statue of an old king, cast out of all silver swords of ancient aristocracy, having surrendered their power, the light of the column reflects high up the light behind the mountains of Exepher.

All the elder arts this newer civilisation has hauled to a swamp land, where also the wise and muse rest.

Allegory of irony and horniness.
Hethred out of jealousy banishes all men out of heaven by burning her apple gardens, and has an angel seduce Exether, the angel when seduced Exether again flees the underworld, trough outrage over the deception now with her sword of ice Exerther chases in anger all men down to earth, and irradicates any that may have left behind.
An army of Hethred is trapped in an arena made into a dungeon, pounding on the walls, at the center in a valley, at the outer rim of the world she had built a wall once more, trapped possibility and vision behind it, in greatest deserts and wastelands.

If I were at the bookstore, I would buy the circus story in a second.

I really like the idea of different chapters/characters. You could really do a lot with this story line.

How exciting to have finally found a group of like minds! Creative people (or, at least, those that act on their creativity) are a rarity in this passive, banal world.

As for me, I've been working on a very long poem (written in the form of a ballad and accompanied by pen&ink illustrations) that tells a story of a swordsman who struggles with the guilt of his past sins ~a subject close to my heart. The story ends with him sacrificing himself to save the one he loves. Eventually ~overcoming his guilt in the form of a demon~ his soul is saved.

This work has two "layers". The first: the tangible world, characters, settings, and events portrayed; the second: the spiritual side which the tangible world represents. I love the idea of a fantasy story having a spiritual symbolism that can be applied to people's lives today. I haven't quite fugured out all the symbolism yet; this is my biggest obstacle in finishing it.

Knowledge is wasted without the ability to think critically. I agree, it is rather rare.

Your idea, while not a carbon copy, reminds me of many stories, the most notable being The Inferno. Yet, I am not complaining. Many great works share central themes and ideas. It is all in how it is expressed.

Keep with it

Well thinking about starting a new novel since one of the three I had going is out of my hands and off to an editor (actually a friend of my mom's who does me a favor by editing my stories shhhhhh) Anyway I have a sort of idea in mind for a new story and in the debating process for posting it online.
I've never posted a story online and the idea of putting up something unedited and the intense flaming it will ensue, is it worth it?

P.S. sorry for hijacking the thread

Go for it, I wish people would post more short stories. I've started to dislike poetry altogether.

I'm doing some pre-writing on a story about a[secretly] underground world[that's right, no one knows that they're underground] created artificially by forgotten magic. There is no sun--only a slowly fading sky, taking 36 or so hours to go from dim grey to black. The world is covered in cracked, black desert mulch[yes, mulch]. It never rains--instead, randomly appearing clouds of fog deposit water, causing bountiful life to appear from the dirt. It dies soon after the water leaves, but while it's there, dozens of dangerous and unknown life-forms follow, all vying for the advantage of water. Towns are very sparce--and not all of them human. Roaming the desert are tribes of Nomad Traders, who have secret ways of predicting the clouds, and magic to protect them from bands of cannibalistic Desert Marauders. There are sentient rattlesnakes, the keepers of the desert, and there are dozens of magickal experiments gone wrong creating racial diversity. But the story centers around the mysterious, forbidden dungeons that litter the black landscape. No one knows who put them there or why, or even how they did so. No one knows much about what's in them. All they know is that if you enter, you won't return.
Our hero is one of a few exceptions to this. He makes a living defying death--he is a dungeon diver, a kind of mashed-up Indiana Jones-meets-Laura Croft[from the games, not the movies], with a very mercenary spin on it, despite his good nature. It's dangerous enough to go into the dungeons, more dangerous to come out alive, and still dangerous to fence off whatever you managed to steal from the forgotten generations who assumedly created most of the world you live in. On top of that, it's illegal. But, he manges to do it. Then, a Nomad girl comes to him with a request... and crossed fingers. He's in over his head immediately. His path soon crosses with those of a sadistic gladiator, with diplomatic immunity, and the prison warden who is constantly at odds with him; an archer being stalked by a persistant prostitute, and a mysterious shadow-fox character. And, the chieftain of the Nomads, one of the world's most powerful black mages, has come looking for his daughter. The girl is hiding something, and perhaps not what she seems, and the recovery of certain artifacts and lost magickal knowledge may unravel the basis of thought behind the nature of their world. Our hero is just caught in the middle, trying to make a living..... After all, if it weren't for Dungeon Divers, who would contribute to the advancement of knowledge about the world? Almost all current scientific/magickal knowledge is based on retro-engineering of artifacts recovered by the secret government department responsible for doing so. It's really not worth spending TOO much energy enforcing a rule on people who are either never going to be seen again.... or who are like shadows, living legends. What will happen when the truth is unleashed on a totally apathetic people, possessed of barely enough caring to keep themselves alive? On a world where the only sparks of passion are found in the hearts of philosophers and natural scientists, out documenting new life forms and magicks, and writing bestiaries? What is out there, on the surface? And when does our hero get paid?

He also wears magick eyeliner. No joke. It's mineral compostion and his cunning and intelligence allow him to manipulate stones and metal, including locks. He simply has to figure out the inner workings, not too hard for an experienced bandit. This means he can more easily lift himself over stones, or them from him, and that he has the edge in a fight with blades. He is also possessed of a few other useful magickal skills, and a ring set with an arcane stone for protection. This, and a strange totem.... a black bird, which he had never seen before finding a pendant on a dive. He now collects feathers when he finds them, considering this and any appearance of such a bird an omen.

Angelic,

That sounds very interesting to me. I have two novels underway (who knows when I'll finish them), and one uses the ruins of a long-forgotten kingdom somewhat similar to your idea as a setting for part of the book. I think what I like about a setting like this is that it provides the story with a specific and unique history of its own. Your book sounds as if it will contain a great deal of action and exotic characters that should be very fun to create. May I ask you, is there a moral or message behind your story?

Anyway, it sounds good; I hope that you'll finish it.

Oh, I'd say the morals would be staying true to yourself[within an ethical manner, of course] and that we've got a lot to learn from our ancesters--and we never will learn more than a fraction of it. The past seems grander than the future in some ways; however, it is important to remember that which brought about the destruction of yesteryear and subsequent loss of all its treasured knowledge.
I hope I finish it, too--it's hard, sometimes, to appropriate the proper time to things. Thank you very much for the compliment.

"The past seems grander than the future..." wow, my mind summed up in seven words!

I agree with you. The ability to utilize one's time effectively is a most splendid skill. Sadly, I'm a perfectionist, and finishing anything as large in scope as a novel seems like a nearly impossible feat for me.

I'm writing an epic poem about these people in the future who train their bodies to be able to shoot fireballs, plus they can fly. When they get really powerful, their hair turns blond, and there's an evil alien coming to Earth to destroy every1 in like a year so they have to train and prepare and defeat him or else the world will be FOREVAR DESTROYED and I call it. . .

Short story about failure..... just your basic whiny self-indulgent bullshit with the obligatory hackneyed humor, but I hadn't written a short in a while so I figured I'd just bang something out for the sake of writing. It was pretty much that or Gnet slash fiction, if that gives you an indicator of the kind of quality we're talking here.

Poetry will always be my biggest hard-on, and I've gotten pretty into this playwriting thing (it's relatively new to me, so while the kind of stuff I've been doing will probably be profoundly underwhelming to anyone with more than a working knowledge of theatre, it feels more experimental than any of my other areas of masturbatory dabbling right now)..... but although the finished product mentioned above is resoundingly mediocre, the writing itself was pleasantly comforting.

The read-through less so, but fuck it, you can't always nail it.
