Yep, the Snape was me.

I can be quite androgynous when I want to.

God, I feel stupid.

I was sitting there, looking at your avatar NyQuil (believe me, you look like a girl... a hot, sexy girl), and still it blew right over my head. It's like when I forget my best friends name randomly after we've been friends for 4 years.

I often get mistaken for being 16-18 a lot and sometimes I hate it!

I wouldn't mind being mistaken for a boy for a day

Are you sure?

Your posts were not visible for what, one day? It is not really my role to get involved, but as a mod here, I'd remove all your disgusting piss stuff, if I could. I really don't think that your fly off the handle troll bait interaction tone is really suited to the job of moderation. What year is it? People should know better than to engage trolls bent on disrupting the boards. All you do is make our life harder, because once the troll gets knocked out, there are still fifty posts with YOU quoting them while you are going back and forth with them. No offense, but you are just not winning over my vote, and it's not democratic anyway. Banning is not the solution to everyone you irritate. This new system has a very effective ignore function. I'd suggest learning to use it.

S/he is not only a moderator, but one of the higher powers on this site.

And I have to agree with him/her on baiting trolls.

Guys, I know you want to defend what you consider to be YOUR site, but engaging trolls instead of ignoring them DOES make our joobs a LOT harder.

And the IGNORE button is something EVERYONE should use.

Only problem is that someone who stumbles onto this site (meaning a potential member/writer) will see posts by trolls and might get a completely different idea of this site than we (who after clicking the ignore button can't see their posts).

Trolls will still pollute this site that way and leave an unmistakable blemish.

But the IGNORE function is still an incredibly usefull tool to members here. USE IT!!!!!

Thank you Mael for the clarification on who this DirtNap is...

i do have a few questions for DirtNap.

Where is this site going? i clearly read on a *********** post that A.G. and F.B. had a new editor for this site and h/she had some plans for it. What are those plans? To leave it as it is a simple forum with a few porn banners advertising A.G. and F.B.'s other sites?

i can deal with the ousting of Darren, but the demise of a nice little literary webzine? Nay, the transformation of a literary webzine to a simple forum rife with fucktards (trolls). Yes, i could use the ignore function, i have before, but my main qualm is the direction of this site.

Again, where is it going? A little insight would be grand. Busy busy busy i understand, yet Darren was a few weeks away from unveiling an improved version of Gothic.net...but no, now i sift through threads about little kids cutting themselves for the attention of mommy and daddy, and "oh why is me" teeny bopper fucking journal poetry.

DirtNap, how about an update? Is there some sort of evolution in the works or is this best y'all gonna give us?

-Vince

The ignore button is a VERY good point. A troll can't and won't troll if noone gives them the satisfaction of a response. there are good newbs and bad newbs and it's usually pretty clear early on who belongs in which category. This is a public forum and as such we, members of the public, get to deal with other members of and from the public internet space. Again reiterating that we get the good with the bad.

The only way around this is to make the site NON public and require new members to be sponsered in. Doing so limits the potential this site has for the sharing of words and ideas with new people. I've only been here for a couple of years, and not super active during a lot of that time but I can tell you that there has ALWAYS been disruptive newbs and there will ALWAYS be more that follow so long as the site remains publicly open.

Mael is right on the money. If you read some posts by someone and you do not approve, use the ignore button and potentially report major abuse to your local mods. That's all any of us can do should we choose to participate here.

I made those, and I thought since we do have porn banners at the top of this site it wouldn't be a problem. Not that I have a problem with the banners...

You know that's another good point. Since the main advertising for this site is entirely "adult" content, wouldn't it be wise - both legally and morally - to make this site an adults only site? You know - something at the front warning kids not to enter. Something bold and blatant with new account registrations. I can see some parent of 13 year old black dress Sally freaking out at the discovery of this site pushing pornography onto their impressionable child who came here to whine about school to other black dress Sally's.

I've thought about this before - many have I'm sure - but I never said anything.

So what gives?

I should have been more clear, it was really late. A combination of report post and ignore should work fine. That way, when people review the offending posts and remove them, they are wholly gone. Once people start mixing it up with trolls, it becomes a lot more difficult to cut out the junk. It is also a lot more likely that they might get caught up in the cleanup process. That is what I think happened to Xnguela.

For those of you that didn't know already, I was asked to help keep an eye on things here and help out a bit.

You know what.

Here's what I have to say. Ignore it if you want but I'm gonna say it anyway.

How can you all just give up and leave? Is this something you would do in real life? I have a policy not to give up when life throws me a curveball, and believe me it has saved me countless times. I have grown to care what actually happens on this board regardless if any of us have met face to face or not.

Don't just give up. Why would you just up and leave those you care about here just because of a few assholes? It's like leaving your friends to deal with the rabid dogs without your help.

I'm dissappointed in the fact that you could give up so easily when faced with a fixable problem.

Well, I'm gonna stay, be it alone or not, and flame and bash every single idiot into submission if that's what it takes to get this board back on track. Because I like speaking to intelligent people, be it online or not.

I certainly appreciate your can-do attitude.

Reporting and ignoring the idiots and trolls would work much better though. Flaming and bashing just drags the thread or conversation or even the whole board down into the muck. There are people in place to correct or remove these characters. It is better just to carry on, unruffled.

Internet forums can only hold ones attention for so long. After a couple thousand posts on the same general topics what more is there left to say? Many people are also, no matter how much they pretend, are very resistant to change. And when things do change it is percieved as worse then before when really - it's just different.

I've seen it time and time again over the years with the various boards and forums I've been a member and moderator for... there comes a time for some when enough is enough. It so happens that here people tend to do it with much more public spectacle. It's the nature of expressive word artists - and those that try - I suppose.

I'm still here!

I can attest that it is a baaaaaaaad idea to quote the trolls before you send them hopping over the fence with their asses in their hands. I won't say why it's bad, and maybe what I know was an isolated event, but you have to trust me do NOT quote them!

Good, I'm really glad to know there are still good people here. I was beginning to feel alone in my ideals.

I was pretty frustrated today when I started posting all over the board. But now I'm feeling more calm.
