Riot Folk?

Evan Greer's Picket Song is seriously kicking my ass right now. Nothing will get you in the spirit of a long weekend at the cottage with the punks like drifting off (passing out) in a tent to some riot folk.

Any one else know any good crusty/riot folk? I know Johnny Hobo and Pat's various other incarnations, and Mischief Brew, but that's about it.

Can any one help me out? Also, discuss.

I've heard the term riot folk a few times recently but I haven't had a minute to check it out for myself. The idea of it seems interesting, I'm curious as to how exactly it works as what I would associate with folk is nowhere near what I'd associate with anyone using the term riot for their music.

Give it a listen. It's basically just leftist political folk. As for "riot" not going with folk, I've been to a folk show where we almost danced through the 3rd storey floor of the house.

Lyrical example from my link above;

"mom called him a dirty scab, gave him two pieces of her mind
she picked up and she threw every rock that she could find
and when he called the cops on her she kicked his behind
sayin' “that's what you get when you walk across our union's picket line!'"

It's not so much that I think the combination will be awful or anything, it's just not one I would have immediately picked out as something that would really mesh well together if you know what I mean. That said, there are plenty of styles that get combined that work when you wouldn't expect them to so I don't see why this one would be much different

I love subverted folk with all my heart, but some of the new shit sounds like blink 182 unplugged.

I absolutely love Evan Greer. Honestly I'm too busy flailing at seeing him mentioned here to think of similar artists atm, but I assume you've checked out riot-folk.org? I was pretty into a couple of the other artists there, as I recall.

HOLY SHIT! Just discovered Blackbird Raum! Real awesome back to basics stuff. Mandolin, banjo, washtub bass, saw, and washboard.

The song "Witches" is a close second favourite.

"And it won't be the witches that are burning this time"

Wow. I liked Evan Greer when I heard "the Picket Line Song". Then I heard "The Adderall Song" which is pracitcally just him bawwing about how the meeeeean men made him take medication.

I have lost a whole lot of respect for him.
