Introduction from a "Trad. Goth"
Greetings, I decided to join this forum last night following a strong bout of what is best described as "Rozz Williams Syndrome", with no one available to discuss such similar obsessions with. Both friends of mine who were involved in the scene a few decades ago, being asleep at the time. With this being my first such attempt at Gothic social networking since the mistake of signing up for vampirefreaks, which was a traumatizing experience for me needless to say... While as for what Goth bands I listen to, my apologies if the following reads like a name drop dump, but I'm actively collecting discographies for all of the following artists. A list not nearly long enough seeing as I'm usually wearing headphones for the majority of my conscious hours.
----
The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie & The Banshees, 45 Grave, Southern Death Cult, The Damned, Christian Death, Virgin Prunes, Alien Sex Fiend, Sex Gang Children, The Birthday Party, Circuit7, Cemetery Girlz, Sisters of Mercy, Rosetta Stone, Spiritual Bats, Mephisto Walz, Clan of Xymox, Phadia, Witching Hour, Suspiria, The Last Days of Jesus, The Cemetery Girlz, Zombie Ghost Train, Leitmotiv, Specimen, Morticia, Subtonix, Soul Merchants, 13th Moon, Daucus Karota, Shadow Project
--
My second favorite genre of music being EBM, of which Apoptygma Berzerk holds the greatest influence over me. Non auditory hobbies of mine including the composition of short horror stories and philosophical treatises; among a multitude of others I won't list now for fear of rambling on. (am looking for people to exchange long messages with however) And on an ending note, to offer up some personal trivia.. One affliction that plagues my personality, is being unable to resist conjuring up awful puns for other peoples names. My username reflecting this, as a combination of the obvious and Porl King; perhaps known best as the vocalist for Rosetta Stone. (my apologies if you're reading this Porl) On which I'll end by sharing one of their music videos.

Welcome PorlNecklace, and thanks for the list of bands, I'm looking for some new music (or rather...old music, I haven't heard yet...) and there are a few bands on your list I haven't listened to. I've been on Vampirfreaks before as well...I wouldn't quite describe it as traumatizing, but, yes...a very odd place to say the least.

Indeed, the primary mistake I made when submerging myself into that human cesspit; being to offer an open mind and ready ear for any psychotic seeking to test my faith in humanity. For which I was literally rewarded within a week by having some nasal fetishist stalker ring up my home phone repeatedly.
While you have my sincere gratitude for such sympathies, additionally.

It makes me happy being able to introduce my favorite bands to others and vice versa, so you're very much welcome. And if there are any other artists you enjoy whom I failed to mention, please do share them with me. A couple of the groups I included being more recent, or with a virtual absence of songs uploaded on youtube however. Though anywho, I'm relieved to hear that you're experiences with vampirefreaks went far more cordially than my own.

Wow, you got a stalker on Vampirefreaks that called your house? Glad I didn't use that site for very long...

Yes, and to top the proverbial cherry on this excremental sundae; he was pretending to be a female additionally. Though the general issue I had was receiving unsolicited messages from pubescent junior high girls, which typically constituted of a) thinly veiled attention seeking egotism, through unjustifiable threats of suicidal masochism b) proud proclamations of premature promiscuity, coalesced with contradictory rantings against "sluts", and the rarest but worst, c) pleadings that I comment on pornographic images of themselves disrobed. *GREEECH!XO* (am an adult not a pedophile, who still prefers the companionship of women even older than myself anyway...)
Am feeling guilty now also, for ranting on so much about just a few sentences however. So hearing this encouragement concerning my preference for formal writing, I would like to thank you Versus. Such diction being quite beneficial for when I'm writing philosophical treatises, but counterintuitive elsewhere on "teh internets".

You'll find some good, some bad, some intelligence and some foolishness here.
In other words, I think you'll find it a not entirely unrewarding experience.
Welcome to this place. I look forward to your contributions.

My thanks again for the welcomes here. This forum appearing more promising than most others, while I'll certainly try to confer some positive contributions.*wonders just when the transition from formal Gothic occurred, as DK mentioned*

Welcome PorlNecklace, hopefully this place will be better than vampirefreaks. It seems like you have a good taste in music (gotta love Rosetta Stone, The Witch is a great song).

Long boring story short, this used to be a gothic literature forum, but after ownership switched hands, I do believe, they stopped that. The admins say they might publish short stories again but nothing has been done in a few years, and some drama happened and there was a mass exodus of older members who were very srs about being goth, and those of us who stuck around grew up and aren't necessarily goth anymore. We do get a lot of newbies who are into metal and even some who know what goth rock is, but if you want to talk about goth music those of us who have been around know enough and like it enough to talk about it too, even if many of us don't identify as goth anymore. Does that make sense?

To be accurate, some of them weren't hell-bent about it being all Goth ... just about wanting the discourse here to be articulate and literate (although the complaints did include some criticisms of the move away from publishing Gothic literature). I know because I was very open about not being at all Goth myself at the time (although I like some of the music), and I got along fine with everyone. And it wasn't really a mass exodus.
Some members complained too demonstrably about the demotion of all the moderators by the administration, about the subsequent lack of moderation and an increasing influx of trolls and spambots here. Some of them crossed a line in the view of the administration, so those members got banned. And some other members left in solidarity with those who got banned. Ultimately, it was all internal politics, some rather unpleasant disputes and some bad behavior (I call it the GNet Moderation War). And while "mass exodus" may be a shorter and more diplomatic way to express those events, it's an oversimplification.
But Saya is correct ... that is a ways back in the past (early June of 2006 I believe), and some of us have stuck around, adapted and learned to make the place our own in new ways.
Saya is also correct in saying it is a different kind of place now (even though the logo at top left of each page still says "Gothic.net - Bone Chilling Literary Culture") ... interesting to hang around in but not as tied to Gothic literature as it once was. And most places in the world and on the internet evolve, so that may not be such a bad thing.

Thank you for the welcome, myself already enjoying this forum far more than those of the latter site. (never met anyone there who shared my tastes in music) With "Subterfuge" and "Adrenaline" being my two other favorites from their Adrenaline album. You're username making me think of Der Kleine Vampir right now too, randomly enough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huVu0Yvm8Gk That and Vampire: The Masquerade. *sniffle, my supplement books are falling apart now, faster than anything else in my collection, which goes back to 1870X-X*
*reply to CarrionCorpse*
Much thanks;P, I'll try my hardest to not act like a total dick here then. Although by the end of using that fore-stated website, I did pretty much transform into some sort of post-punk; hipster nazi in demeanor.:S
*reply to Ben and Saya*
Mass Exodus or otherwise, I found the history of this website to be a rather interesting read. And am appreciative of the time taken to share such details with me. Having browsed through the "who's who" I wouldn't mind reading some of these periodicals, though doubt my own literary abilities sufficient enough to contribute should publishing ever resume once more. (would still try) And am sorry for having missed out on these older members, as the most intelligent and entertaining conversations that I've had come from people who were Goth in the 80's and 90's. While on other sites I have engaged in "missionary work" towards younger individuals, attempting to espouse this genre of music which I love quite dearly. Though am still laid back and never antagonistic, towards other elements. See no purpose in needless drama and flame wars, and postulate that "crossing the line" had to do with something similar then? Either way, I'm happy here the way it is currently, yet also how it might have looked in the past. Other forums I used to frequent funnily enough, peaking then mutating around that same year. Perhaps having something to do with the widespread availability of laptops, to young teenagers?-?

Porl, I want to ask for your forgiveness. I'm very drunk and feel compelled to troll you.
What are your thought concerning pancakes, the new world of darkness/requim, the cavalry, and uppercuts?

Am reading through the oldest introductions while awaiting the arrival of my Indian food.. And is this Schadenfreude that I'm feeling? It reminds me of this hilariously atrocious intro. from our "Queen"..

No need to apologize Versus, if only I could be drunk now as well.*memories*
Pancakes- Yummy, especially with chocolate chips mixed inside
NWOD- It shames greatly to admit, but answering this question is more difficult now, than if you had asked me "Is Evil in the flesh?".. Though needless to say, I am quite attached to the OWOD and saw no purpose for its obsoletion, on which my closed friend in this matter agrees.(ie: drugging and DJ'ing at meetups, in the glory days)
Calvary- I believe that Calvary is among the most beautiful and interesting cemeteries in existence, and as such am proud to live nearby it. http://bathdailyphoto.files.wordpres...ueens_edit.jpg
Uppercuts- Far preferable to undercuts, my testes having suffered enough blunt trauma over the course of a single lifetime.

*The "Is Evil in the flesh" question coming from this song, which I'm considering to write an essay on.* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEN_IyLGdVk

Dude! Cavalry~
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalry
And you're bringing me down, man. Uppercuts are something you give, not receive. It is the truest expression of defiance.

Haha, I guess we were on the different wavelengths concerning pugilism. But yes, I'd be happy to deliver an uppercut to someone deserving of it, and probably throw in a bite as well if truly defending myself. Understood cavalry the first time also, but thought I'd do something different, sorry. Though on that note, I can't think of anything more awesome than mounted warriors; than if they were drawn by chariot.
