Jet fighter crashes in back of my sister-in-law's house!
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...Ccj0QWgU49U8UQ
The F-18 jet fighter crashed into the home in back of my sister-in-law's house. Her husband was on Channel 7 news, saying "We knew there were people in there but there was nothing that anyone could do for them." The flames were too intense. A grandmother, mother and one, possibly two children died in the home.
He was home when it happened, my sister-in-law was at work, and as of now is still not allowed past the barricade even though she lives there and her husband is on on the other side.
He has been told to prepare to evacuate.
The pilot ejected safely.

If it were in Texas, she could have got dibs on the shrapnel.

Yeah, weird, and to think they moved from Santee to there a few years ago because they thought it was safer than Santee! You never know when your number will be up.

Wait I'm confused by your part of the description/what I read in the article HP so let me see if I have it straight: a military fighter crashed hit two houses (your sister in law's and her neighbors) and several members of her neighbor's family was killed.

No, sorry, in my excitement I wasn't expressing myself clearly: the jet crashed into the house that is in back of my sister-in-law's house. It actually crashed into several houses, but anyway, if you look over her backyard fence you see a smoldering crater where her backyard neighbor's house used to be. My sister-in-law's family and house is safe, although scared out of their wits.

I haven't heard yet, except that the military sent in a HazMat unit and everyone had to be treated for possible exposure to toxic fumes/dust including the firefighters.

Wow, That's lucky on their part. I think it's messed up that they won't let your sister-in-law back home. I wonder if, in the current economic climate, the government are going to shell out for damages...

Makes you wonder about military pilots, eh?
They drop bombs on women and children in other countries all the time. I bet even though he wiped out a grandmother and her grandchildren, he is not losing any sleep - he does that sort of thing on a regular basis.
Thats what they call collateral damage.

Or shock. They are still people, Sternn, even if they do not agree with your politics.
Just saw that three people died and that 2-3 more are missing/unaccounted for.

Wow.
Glad to hear your sister-in-law's ok man.
And Sternn, it's the same with doctors isn't it?
They see people dieing all the time.
They become jaded to it.
Is jaded the right word?

But you have to see the irony there don't ye? I mean, the man was flying a plane, a plane built to kill people. It did its job, not quite the way it was planned, but it and the pilot carried out their normal function - kill defenseless people on the ground.
It just turns out it did it at the wrong place, and now everyone is worked up.
The reality is this jet, and others like it, go around causing 10x as much death and destruction on a regular basis to people all over the world, yet 2-3 people in America die and it is on every telly.

The reason everyone is worked up is that the pilot flew for almost a hundred miles on one engine: he knew that he had problems, the first engine had quit and could not be restarted, so he should have touched down at the nearest servicable airport (there were three within range) but instead he tried to make it back to the carrier. A serious lapse in judgement. Someone will be demoted for this one, either the mechanics, the pilot or the commanders if they told him to fly back to the carrier instead of touching down.
