Why is this in the Literature section? Why ask us at all, we're not a relationship forum.
*don't mind me, I'm crankier than usual today*

I'd say it's best to be the same age so you can be equals, but age dosen't matter as much as being emotionally on the same page.

I sense English is not your first language, Mexdyeri. What country are you from?

I sense that there is an introductions forum, and a whining forum. Much better place for this kind of a deal. Intro first, then we shall give you all the advise our collective wisdom can possibly pool.

Well, we all know that but perhaps this is some desperate creature on the brink of an arranged marriage and this was as close as she could bring herself to a cry for help.

Half the age of the elder person, plus seven.

The man should be at an age where he is mature enough to marry and start a family. Usually this means he is a bit older than the woman. Depending on the womans age, the man might be anywhere from same age to twenty years older.

Who cares? If it's not weird or gross to the people involved in the relationship, then fuck it.

Two years, with the man as the older partner. All relationships which don't adhere to this rule are doomed to failure.

Hmmmm. I follow the rule of tens. Soooooo, I could in theory go up to thirty three. Yet, it only works one way, obviously, but for the most part, I don't dip below twenty. Not that I have had any success with that little plan. And, all in all, I really don't think it matters at all.

You're wrong! Non-adherence to the 2 yr rule is the reason for the high divorce rate!

Riiiiiight. My father is nine years older than my mother, and they have been married for almost thirty years. Seems like a bit of a glitch in the theory.

They must have lied to you about their age. It's the only possible explanation. Or maybe one of them was unknowingly adopted as a child, and since whoever abandoned them on the doorstep didn't leave a note your grandparents didn't know their real age when they lifted them out of the moses basket. So they guessed.

Maybe when the government kidnapped Dad, the tested the time/space continuum with him. Somehow, they sent him back in time through the worm hole seven or eight years, only to emerge at the exact instant that was two years older than Mom. That would explain a bit.

Bitch didn't post an introduction.

And why the fuck did they put this in the literature section?

As for the question, there's no "optimum" age in my opinion. So long as you love one another that's all that should matter.

That seems like sort of a random answer. How did you come to this conclusion?

it's the formula my mother gave me, and her mother before her. The notion being that as you get older, a greater age difference matters less. The 4 years between 14 and 18 is a hell of a lot longer than the 4 years between 35 and 39. And, so as you get older, so does the over/under widen.

Also, we have a caveat of "but of legal age/drinking age" for obvious reasons; and "... but staying within your generation" as a common sense addendum so that you will have something other than pheromones in common.

So, a 20 year old can date a 17 year old- but make it 18 to be safe.

A 42 year old can date between 28 and 77...

It's a funny guide, but, in all seriousness, what does it matter as long as her second amendment lovin' daddy don't have a gun at yer hed?
