Pointing out that I have no idea how to get to the bus station more than a few miles away so I can get to school without bumming rides? EXCUSE. I don't get it. Does he want me to bow my head submissively and murmur a soft 'Yes, Sir' before shuffling off to do his bidding? Oh, best part is that when I called him on cutting me off every two sentences, he threw a hissy fit and started yelling at me about something completely different. If I sound like I'm just a spoiled brat, I'm really not. I do everything I'm told to do, and I pull my own weight. My dad just has issues accepting this whole 'free will' concept. He's one of those parents who gives an order, then when asked why, he resorts to the eternally weak 'Because I said to, stop asking questions!' Which is when I decide to not listen to him, because he has the weakest excuse for exerting control I could ever imagine. He's fine with me standing up and asking questions when given orders from anyone else except him. Go figure.
My sympathies. That sucks that your dad won't let you have a mature conversation. What I am about to say may sound counter-intuitive, but just hear me out ok?

For your dad to act that way says to me that he feels under appreciated. He has to bust his ass working to support the family, and maybe is under stress at work too, especially in this economy of high unemployment. So in his mind, if he has to bust his ass and do it without complaining (about his having to work hard, not about you. I know he loves complaining about you and your "excuses"), then everyone else should be able to bust their ass too and not complain with "excuses" (in his mind).

He has a desperate emotional need but doesn't know how to express it (maybe leave a copy of the book "Emotional Intelligence" lying around for him to read!).

Try this: when he comes home from work tomorrow or whenever, ask him how his day at work went. If he starts yapping let him go, and get it out of his system. Don't hit him up with something you justifiably need as soon as he comes in the door, but rather make the conversation about his work. Find some way of saying you appreciate the hard work he does to provide for the family and maybe even try to sneak in the word "sacrifice" etc. Let him hear that you know he is martyr for the family.

Once he feels appreciated, I expect his listening to everything you say as an excuse will go away, and he may even look for opportunities to prove he is the superman you tell him he is.

Thanks guys, it was kinda weird, but I guess you just gotta get used to it.

Now onto the next thing, finding out what's wrong with my truck, it lopes during idle, I'm going to check the timing, EGR valve and the IAC as well, hoping it's not anything major like injectors......

I'm pissed about the news reports of SEC employees who spent up to 8 hours of their work day browsing sites like naughty, spankwire, youporn and others instead of policing the financial system when we so desperately needed them to do so. One SEC accountant attempted to access porn websites 1800 times in two weeks. SHE had 600 pornographic images stored on her government computer hard drive! The investigation found 31 serious offenders over 2.5 years, 17 of whom are senior officers with salaries in the $100,000 to $222,000 range.

I don't care what people do in the privacy of their home or even their social life. Clearly, I have no problem with erotica or pornography in general (although there many things in the pornographic industry that I do have a problem with.) But this is just incredibly, unfathomably wrong.

Thank goodness someone was watching the watchmen. I hope they all get fired and banned from government employment for life.

In Marxists nation I wonder if they would have any consequences, how would they get fired? How would justice be carried out?

In the U.S. government, the Supreme Court is part of the governmental architecture. In a Marxist state would the justice system be part of or separate from the governing apparatus?

Would you call a gangster/goth cross a gothster?

It's OK, I can't stand it when people tan to the point of becoming orange, and they did it either with spray on tan or a tanning bed.

A few rays during the summer while working outside is one thing; being a walking orange peel is another.

Jake's parents really don't seem to be grasping the concept that I am an adult and am the one in charge of planning my wedding. They keep giving me really vague answers to everything that involves contracts or money, and instead they want to talk directly with my mom about it. This wouldn't bother me so much except for the fact that they have not once called or emailed my mother to discuss anything with her.

Currently I am finalizing everything with the venue for my wedding. We are having a very small ceremony followed by a dinner, since we are not having a rehearsal dinner and we will be having the same number of guests that you would expect for a rehearsal dinner Jake's parents are going to be paying (as it is tradition for the groom's family to pay for the rehearsal dinner). The contract with the vineyard is all good to go, we just need to pay the deposit. The problem is that I can't get a straight answer from them as to who is going to pay the deposit. Jake and I had lunch with his father and I asked (admittedly I was a bit blunt but I have brought this up before and gotten nothing) if they were planning on paying the deposit and I told him the dollar amount. I told him specifically that my mother already has an account set up for the wedding and that the deposit could easily come out of that and that the deposit is simply to hold the date goes towards the event cost so there aren't any additional refundable parts for potential damages or anything like that, I just need to know which they want to do. The only answer that he gave was that he will have to talk to "your mother" I don't even know if that would be my mother or Jake's mother but it has been over 24 hours and I've heard nothing. I don't like waiting around for people and I don't like having people waiting around for me (especially after I did kind of rush Erica, who was rather ill and that was why it took so long to get a response from her and has been very prompt with everything since she recovered).

I'm also getting a little frustrated with them since every time I even mention anything close to a dollar amount for anything that they may be paying for they keep giving me these looks like I'm asking for way too much. So far they are picking up the tab for the dinner and maybe the bar tab for the celebration (which are both traditionally paid for by the grooms family). I get that weddings are expensive and that they are substantial amounts of money but they make about three times as much as my mother, just last month Fred bought a new car, and they keep telling us to let them know what we are expecting them to pay for so I don't think it is terribly unreasonable for me to think it is okay to ask that they pay about 10% of what my mother has contributed.

Solumina, I'm afraid it's sounding like you better figure out a way to get a commitment from them, because right now it sounds like you can't rely on them to pay anything. Also, this may be a case where you need Jake to put the pressure on them. If they can say no or remain vague with him, then you'll know where you stand.

Pain >_< I managed to fall after 10 seconds on a scooter yesterday.
My leg is all red and sore and hurting around the backside of the knee, this resulting in small pain spikes whenever I get up or sit down.
I now have a smaller and not-so-heavy machine instead.

Okay so I finally got to the root of the issues with Jake's family (or rather my mother did when she had a very extensive phone conversation). They really just don't like to talk about money, especially in front of their children since they are not as financially responsible as they would like to be and they don't want to set a bad example for their kids. Essentially they spend pretty much everything they make unless they know that they need to save up for something specific, so they aren't really living beyond their means but right at their means and they don't want this to be something that Jake and Shannon start doing, thinking that it will be okay because their parents do it. Everything makes a lot more sense now, I just wish it hadn't taken so long to get that figured out.

So essentially my mother is paying all deposits and whatnot but they will pick up the tab for certain things when October comes around. Problem solved.

Also I'm realizng just how abnormal, and benificial, my mothers views on finance are.

My upstairs neighbors are fighting again. Which means they are yelling and stomping and jumping on their floor/my ceiling so much that the room I am in echoes with the sound of it. And my dog barks and howls like crazy every time it happens.

I have never liked the options available to me in this situation. I already know from past experience that most of the time, if you try to speak to the couple while they are in the heat of battle, they just momentarily redirect their ire to you (Mind your own business, bitch!) and it really doesn't seem to change their behavior any the next time no matter when you talk to them. The options of complaining to the apartment complex management or the police seem less than satisfactory, as the best case scenario results in the people getting a brief little chat about being sensitive to the neighbors, and the lasting after-effect of them being pissed at you for calling them out.

And nothing in the way of a confrontational response seems any good because 1) it's not really in my nature and 2) the kind of escalated responses that evolve from confrontation rarely do either party any good.

*sigh*

I'm turning up the TV volume a little bit and waiting it out ... again.

Sometimes people just suck.

Dude if it is that bad then file a noise complaint, at least with your building manager. You aren't the only one who has to put up with their noise and you risk getting a noise complaint yourself because of them causing your dog to bark and such.

Nope, you're the only one experiencing Facebook issues. Everyone I know is having no trouble at all.
