Really? The o nly way you could have seen them is if you've ever read any of my stuff, or if you went to two specific message boards....where did you hear them?
But, yeah, it is kind of stupid....we need someone to erase this thread...

Dagon was part of a name (either first or last, can't remember), of a character in a star wars novel. an imperial general, i do believe. novak and a few others sound familiar but i can't place them. but as long as you're not trying to recreate a character from other books, using deliberate similarities, then i don't see much problem. eventually names have to be repeated. it's how well a character is written that makes their name famous.

I wouldn't dream of ever stealing a character, that's why I posted these. Since there are so many different people here, I would know so much more on these names, and I've only taken one of the names; Laric. And so far goes Dagon, I got it from a dream...

Abiel: The son of Zeror and father of Ner, who was the grandfather of Saul (1 Sam. 14:51; 1 Chr. 8:33; 9:39). In 1 Sam. 9:1, he is called the "father," probably meaning the grandfather, of Kish.

It appears that Dagon is also a work by H.P. Lovecraft. Don't know if its the name of an actual character of his or not.

Fallon: Jimmy Fallon - actor, Jennifer Fallon - author; also, a city in Nevada, something to do with London (an area perhaps).

Novak, Laric, Neftis - these have searches on google too. I'd suggest searching any names you want to use, if you want to know where and how they've been used before.

But I'll also add that it seems rather futile to keep changing names just because you find they're used somewhere else. If the name fits the character you're creating, then use it. Don't worry so much about whether or not its been used before.

Sure, I just realized that, now we need to get a mod and delete this post (preferably before it was created).

Dagon was the name of , I believe, the Philistine god of war. He was a fish-headed god.

Dagon sounds familiar, but I don't know from what, and I think it's supposed to have a 'Lord' in front of it.

Maybe some demon god from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion..?

Abiel - A Seraphim angel(I presumed ... aka Abdiel)

Dagon - The Demon of Ocean

Aka : Dagan, Great Fish

Element/sin : god of vegetation, storm god, god of ocean.

Shape : an idol with the head and hands of a man and the tail of a fish, and as half-woman and half-fish.

Origin : Mesopotamia at Ur in 2500 BC. His cult was popular among the Assyrians. He probably began his existence as a Semitic god adopted by the Philistines after their invasion of Canaan.

Myths : When the Philistines placed the captured Ark in a temple of Dagon in Ashdod, before the statue of Dagon. The next morning they found the statue lying on its face on the temple floor. They set it upright again, but the morning after the statue was again lying face down on the floor, this time with its head and hands broken off. The Hebrews regarded this as a sign of the Ark's power (Samuel 5:1-7).

I've heard Dagon before.

Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedra Prince of Destruction, from the Elder Scroll series.

Dagon was the marine great old one in Lovecraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". Of course, using the name yourself isn't plagiarism per se, but if you're writing a tale involving horrors from the deep, your readers may find it a bit derivative.
None of the other names are familiar to me.

Novak is rather popular name in my country (especially after Novak Djokovic won Australian Open) and we probably have many novel characters of that name.
