Facepalms and Nausea
I thought about posting this link in Spooky News, but it's not so much news as it is like getting poked with a sharp stick by an annoying, snot-faced child.
http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/artic...17/story.jhtml
The day anything gives this movie series goth cred is the day I just give it all up and start hopelessly vomiting in the toilet.

Hiring a goth pioneer from the '80s could indicate his eagerness to embrace an older audience and a darker, more violent, possibly more male-friendly tone.

The franchise has a female friendly tone?

vampires do not sparkle, not even the bastard child of peter murphy, trent rezner and marlyin mansion bathed in grave dirt and wolfsbane with a pint of blood and nightshade on the side could make that helo kitty bullshit in any way associate with goth. twilight is what happens when butters decides he is going to enlist the help of goth kid and ward and june cleaver to write a fucking series, it is an abomination and i am boycotting this movie
who's with me?
it has teeny bopper female appeal

Twilight is just another one of those young teen cheesy romances. The thought that they want to "score a goth cred" makes me want to vomit. Kirsten Stewart also makes me nauseous. I'll pass when this movie comes out.

I have decided to console myself with the belief that Peter Murphy is suffering from a form of early-onset senile dementia and doesn't know what he's done. Otherwise...oh, the betrayal!

I just wish Goths would quit blabbing on about how terrible Twilight was. It was aimed at 13 yr olds for fuck sake. I understand that it hurts you deeply that the vamps weren't fashion obsessed and didn't wear fishnets but get over it already.

Twilight has pissed me off since the books came out. The fact that it took an interesting subject like vampires and watered it down to mindless love story drivel is mind blowing.
I love Bauhaus, and I now vow not to listen to them until Peter Murphy apologizes to every one of us.
I will joing Korinna and Depths in the corner, then off to kill it.

What's so interesting about vampires? It's so fucking played out at this point that every modern movie with them in it is a piece of horse shit. Modern vampire flicks are to horror what Matthew McConaughey is to romantic comedy.

Why does everyone keep saying that Twilight is responsible for "watering down" vampires? There have been crappy romance novels about them for quite some time as well as crappy B-list movies, this is nothing new.
What bothers me about Twilight is that it is written so poorly and yet so many people consider it to be a good book, it makes me sad for society.

I tend to agree with Solumina on this one.
I'm fine with it being crap. I'm -not- fine with crap being popular, when there are so many, much better, more deserving authors and books out there that the mainstream doesn't even glance at. :/
Can you imagine a world where Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is as popular as Twilight or Harry Potter? Because I can, and it's a much better world.

I agree that Wheel of Time is a better series. However, I think it's harder for most people to relate to Wheel of Time's complex characters, than to relate to Twilight's rather simple cast. I believe it's the same reason why so many people prefer Evanescence, over a group like Lacuna Coil. Again, and this is personal preference, while I think Lacuna Coil is infinitely better than Evanescence, they are much harder to relate too than Evanescence.
It's sad, but Twilight's popularity isn't without reason.

Twilight's just the latest and worst in a long process of watering things down for mass consumption. Just like a lot of things (cuisine into fast food, bespoke fashions into racks of WalMart sweats, etc), the vampire mythos has finally reached the required point of blandness that makes it lucrative, easy, and ultimately without the effort of any real thought. This is, disgustingly enough, true of music too.

Wheel Of Time is an excellent series, haven't gottten farther than the 4th book yet though, my sister is on number 10 or something.

Heh heh. This amuses me greatly. XD
As much as I love his music, I've always wondered if Peter Murphy wasn't something of an attention-whore. ;}
