The Palmview child returned fire after being wounded by the intruder
January 15, 2010 10:02 PM
Jeremy Roebuck
PALMVIEW — An a man who broke into his home north of the city early Friday.
Three men burst into the house near the intersection of Minnesota Road and 8 Mile Line just before 12:30 a.m., Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies said.
The child and his mother were hiding in a bedroom when the gunmen tried to force their way in. One of the men shot through the door, striking the boy in the groin area.
The child, who was carrying a .22-caliber rifle, shot back, hitting one of the criminals in the neck. The men fled the scene shortly thereafter, investigators said....

Go kid. Hope "groin area" doesn't mean "balls".

From what I've seen the kid was hit in the hip after one of the B.G's fired through the door.
That's when the kid returned fire.
Would've been nice if the .22 LR round had struck the B.G. a few inches higher (A frontal lobe hit would've stopped the guy in his tracks) But I'm glad the Mother and child survived the encounter and were able to inflict some damage on the home invaders.

But if things were left up to our Federal government (Much like the Government Nanny state you guys have across the pond) he wouldn't have been able to do anything except catch a bullet, and be a good little victim.

But it was a .22, there's no legislation going on that's trying to prevent people buying squirrel hunting rifles. You just don't need .50 cal machine guns and shit.

Answer this one question then...
What is to stop the same anti-gun owner crowd from labeling a scoped .22 lr Squirrel Rifle the next "Deadly Sniper Threat" ?

The fact that your argument is a textbook example of the "slippery slope" fallacy"?

It's really easy actually.
You don't need a rifle or shotgun that's semi-automatic or automatic, for any legitimate purpose. Limit it to double barrel for shotguns, and for rifles 5 round bolt action or the old lever actions. If you need a 30 round clip to hunt deer, you're a really shitty hunter. If you need an 5 round shotgun to wing-shoot, again, you're a really shitty hunter. I worked at Orvis for 2 years, and the people that go there are the best of the best. If you came in there with a semi-auto shotgun those guys would laugh at you unmercifully.
For self-defense, limit it to 9mm and maybe .45 to appease you nut cases (because Americans are stupid, and think bigger is always better). And limited to an 8 round magazine.

So defense of family and defense of someone's own life isn't seen as a legitimate use to you?

Unless you fucking believe you need more than eight rounds in every single case to be able to defend your own life, your bitching is a joke.
Note that we already knew it was a joke, but this is precisely why it is so.

Who's joking?
So ten rounds would be excessive for anything?

Short of all out war, yea, pretty much. Hell, we used the Colt 1911 for 70 years, and that had 7 rounds. And that was for the fucking military.

Until that weapon was replaced by what?
the M-9 Beretta which holds 16 when fully loaded (15 in the mag and one in the chamber).

Your argument is stupid. The point is, it's not necessary. Even for military use, 7-8 rounds is plenty.
Plus, there's still a lot of people in the military who think the 1911 should still be the issued sidearm.

That isn't the point and you know it.
The military switched up because of two key factors .
The weapon in question would have to be a 9mm Luger Caliber in order to simplify supply with our N.A.T.O. allies
Have a reasonable capacity (I.E. Civilian Standard Capacity magazines until the Brady bunch laws and the A.W.B. Of '94-'04) for Defensive/Offensive uses.

We're not arguing why the military switched. We're arguing whether or not an 8 round clip is feasible for self defense purposes. And really, if it did fine in World War 2, I'm sure you'll be able to chase off a robber with it.

Ok, first and foremost...I am NOT defending Deadman.
I only responded because of the WWII statement. I have had to chance to talk with people who were there, on the front in France. And from with way they talked about it, it was hell to face shit like the Nazi MP34 sub machine gun with just your M1 carbine, they wanted and need the Thompson smg's as much as possible in such cases. Maybe WWII is not the place you want to look for your supporting evidence.
That's all...carry on please.

I think you mean the MP-38/ MP-40 SMG's.
How else do you explain the good old American M-3 Grease gun (America's answer to the German Maschinenpistole)?

No, I said MP34 'cause...that's what I wanted to say. I'm not a gun nut but my notes from the conversations are clear.

That would be relevant, if we were talking about SMGs... But we're talking about a pistol...

I don't know what kind of people your parents left you with as a child, but I'm pretty damn sure they didn't have unmanned cameras flying around your living room for their pay while your parents went to the cinema.
