Ah Thanks a lot, i just noticed a lot of people lately saying ECT.

Though it has something to do with American x English .

It shouldn't... I don't see why the Americans would spell it "ect," other than to be different, much in the same way they're "different" by using a completely illogical measurement system...

Anyway, are you going to start a thread about 'teh' too? Or 'pwned'?

Pwn came about from people typing quickly during games, and accidentally hitting the P instead of the O, same with teh. It was made famous by some parody site I can't remember the address of.

I think of "teh" as being like "ta-dah, duh." Kind of an emphasis "the."

It is like capitalizing certain letter in acromyns and works.

Let's look at, "LOL"

LAUGH out loud - thought is was funny before thinking about it.

LAUGH out LOUD - Funny in a big way.

laugh out loud - more of a chuckle, maybe hitting on someone.

There is also the incident, while people are typing they Hit the Wrong KEEEY and it's a friendly Forum not A MASTER'S DISORTATION TO THE BOARD of BARRISTER'S.

But that is incorrect. As it has been posted earlier in this thread, etc is an abbreviated form of the latin expression "et cetera", therefore, the correct abbrevation is "etc".

just for those who might be interested, ect IS an abbreviation, just not for et cetera. ECT is an abbreviation for Electroconvulsive Therapy, a treatment (?) that induces brain seizures through electroshock. So yeah, now you can get a bit of a laugh any time someone uses it when they mean "etc."

yeah but it works quite well, at least now that it is able to be controlled and the patient is able to be sedated to prevent them from convulsing and what not
