Catholic? and Gothic?

I am Catholic, but what i dont understand (and maybe someone can explain it to me) what is the huge deal about that?!?
When people find out i am Catholic and Gothic they either go on some rampage about varies thing/feeling they may have, or they get all upset and say im not Catholic or im not Gothic.
What the big deal?
