Birthday in 2 days, and now I've actually fixed up a party, I think I'd rather just get high in the dark with some nice, non-abrasive music. I'm taking the whiny pussy attitude, and know I'll enjoy it once it kicks off, but it's been a helluva month and turning 22 the traditional way just sounds... tiring.

Also, my dog got attacked by a big ugly motherfucker yesterday. He was okay but has been pretty nervy ever since. He usually has balls the size of melons, so it's actually kind of upsetting to see him skulking around with his tail between his legs like his mom caught him banging one out to tentacle porn or something. When a hand game of "GRAB YO' FACE"can't cheer him up, it means he's reached the point where you'd be trying desperately to get him laid if he were human.

Dear Borders.

When you have three signs on your front door alone that proclaim "FREE WIFI", don't be upset with me when I show up with my laptop and use your wifi. Stop giving me dirty looks. Stop bugging me.
I know it's a marketing technique, but having your employees ask me if I need help finding something while I am clearly using my laptop.. it's irritating.
Free wifi means free wifi, not 'use our wifi and we'll guilt you in to buying our stuff'.
Also, if you had The Graveyard Book or more Hellblazer/John Constantine in stock, things might be different.
That is all.

Apathy, I play 'grab yo face' with my cat Zillah. I'm convinced she's a dog..
Hope your pup cheers up

We're getting reamed up the ass by Igor! Its crazy. I still have power but the lights are flickering, a lot of people don't have any power. Lots of flooding and even trees being uprooted, someone got one through the roof! Someone was also swept out to sea trying to save his boat I can't remember the last time we got hit by a hurricane, the last time it was this bad I was really little.

Saya, hold on tight to something firmly anchored.

I hope you weather that storm okay.

Thanks - he's cheered up a little now, and "grab yo' face" to him = Christmas for kids. It's good to have my Sax back on form.

Yeah, i've had some dog-cats and cat-dogs before - I've always grown up with a couple of both, and am of the mind that they're not as different as people are often inclined to think.

Thanks, its still windy and that'll continue overnight but it seems the worst is over. My sister has been without power for seven hours now, like many many people, and they said if they didn't have it by nine (its ten o'clock now) they won't have power until tomorrow sometime. I told her she could come over here for the night but she's scared of making the trip, all the traffic lights are gone.

Look at the roads!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMqwZ_WaeNw

A friend of mine who works at the nearby mall said they didn't close til three thirty, and people were STILL coming in and had the balls to bitch that they were closing. With half the power in the mall gone!

A friend of mine's car was trashed and her house lost roofing and siding. Another friend saw a road sign go through her neighbour's living room window. Someone else has a powerline down on her lawn. I haven't ventured outside to look around but my street seems okay, we're on a high hill so no flooding.

We'll be talking about this for ages. I was wrong about the guy who got swept out to sea, he wasn't trying to save his boat, his driveway gave out under him :S Poor guy was 80 years old.

Saya, when hurricane Ike came through here a couple of years back, I was relieved that the storm weakened to 50-60 MPH winds by the time it roared through the northwest suburb where I live, but we still had areas nearby that were without power for up to 3 days. It was strange because we lived right next to a medical facility, making our section of the power grid was a high priority, so our lights were on within hours.

But for days driving anywhere nearby was like driving through a ghost world - long stretches with no power, no traffic lights and no stores open. Traffic was minimal and slow, and it was difficult to get around the first day because of tree limbs and power lines down in the roadway. And even though everyone had advance notice and was able to stock up, afterward we were all looking for things like the nearest pharmacy that had power so we could by pills for somebody's migraine.

Hurricanes are a real possibility every summer/fall here (as evidenced by the two that have swung through the Gulf and plowed into Mexico just a few hundred miles south of here so far this season. I'm glad you don't have to deal with that more often, and I'm really glad you're not dealing with any flooding. It is really sad to learn about that 80 year old gentleman.

DAMN!

I was preparing two smartphones and a digital camera for the EZ-Bayer store to have them sold on e-Bay when my laptop shut down and the got stuck in the boot up cycle. I noticed it just sitting on the table with that boot-up bar cycling across the bottom ... and it just kept going and going. After forcing a hard reset and trying to restart in standard mode several times and then safe mode with network support and getting the same results, I tried restarting in last known successful configuration .... and that worked.

So now I'm finishing prepping the stuff for the store and eyeballing my laptop warily. When I get back I'm going to need to check it out thoroughly ... but I think I'm going to back everything up first.

Oh the love/hate relationship I have with electronics!

There is a fly here somewhere and it is driving me crazy. Most of the time it is quite and just when I'm starting to forget about it or think that it has flown away it will start buzzing against the window or some such thing and of course the stupid blinds on the windows make it nearly impossible to swat the damn thing.

Saya Hold onto someone cute with the storm! Sad about the old man. Hope you are doing okay, and your toes are dry.

My rant today is about Mr Bat and his lack of domesticity and while I was typing it out I ate some chocolate and now my rant is no longer. Combined with the endorphins from my two hours of exercise, I'm on cloud 9....ahhhhhh.

^ I always wonder why people are so keen to get married when all they end up doing is complaining about their partners anyways.

In one of my Religious Studies class that I'm taking where we're reading the Gospel of St. Mark, there's a part where Jesus tells the Sadducees that there's no marriage in heaven. So my prof was like "Of course there's no marriage in heaven! Wouldn't be heaven if there was."

I cracked up at that, if there's one thing in the Bible I agree with....

Honestly, marriage is a bad idea.
It's outdated, it's nearly guaranteed to make those involved miserable--even if you don't divorce, and it's expensive as hell.

Also, I feel like among people who aren't weak-minded idiots, it's completely pointless. If I love a person, I'll always be mindful of his or her feelings, I'll be faithful to that person, and I will consider that person when making life choices.
I don't need a marriage certificate and a party to ensure that I'll do that. I'll do it because I love and respect the person enough to.

Marriage is only a bad idea if you are a weak-minded idiot who hasn't really thought about what they are getting into. How is something outdated if it is the only way to get a rather wide range of benefits? And how is it expensive as hell when it costs next to nothing (the reception is what is generally expensive and it doesn't have to be, plus not everyone even has one of those) and it will save you money on things like insurance plus leads to you qualifying for better interest rates? My wedding itself is costing under $3500 and almost all of that is for dinner. Sure my celebration is going to be rather expensive but it isn't like my mom is really hurting for money, if she wasn't paying things would be a lot different, mostly the guest count and the venue but I love my friends and family so I'm having as many of them there as I can and to put it bluntly I have expensive taste, I mean if you give me a budget I'll stay under it but I'll get as much as I can out of it, after all I was the kid who had tea parties at the Ritz for my birthday.

I was actually at a wedding about a month ago for a dear friend (who's new husband is in the military so there were some serious benefits to be gained, both emotional benefits like being able to go with him if he is stationed far away as well as financial) and everything, the wedding itself, her dress, the reception, etc. was about $2500 and it was great fun. It isn't like they had to cut back really they wanted something casual, they could have afforded to spend more but they are rather laid back and wanted a wedding that reflected that and it was exactly what they wanted.

OP Not sure what it's like in the States but over here, you live with someone for 2 years you can clam 1/2 of what they have when you split, so maybe the whole living with someone idea is outdated.

And as far as getting married or living with someone again goes for this fruitbat, I think i'll just live near the person i love and arrange to have sleep overs. Fuck cleaning up after them and all the rest of that BS.

Sure maybe the sleepover would last a couple of days and there would be an open door policy.

I'd have to somehow trust teh other person not to sleep around on me (which would never really happen - from myside of the equation - because I am beyond trusting anyone at this stage - and there are no guys left like this - they are all taken).

So i guess i'll just go and join a religious order now

I agree with Ophie mostly, except here in Canada as far as I know if you're common law (live together for I think two years, I heard sometimes as little as three months...I'll look into it when I'm in that situation) you're as good as married, you can claim insurance and benefits and all that jazz. And thats the way it should be, no one should feel they need to spend thousands on a wedding and you do get judged if you have a small thing at city hall (a friend of mine did this and people are still giving her shit for NOT INVITING THEM or registering for gifts or any of the "fun" shit). And a lot of people do it for the attention whoring, and feeling like a princess for a day (or for the entire planning process and months and months later) I know people who did it because their religion told them to wait til marriage (is it just me, but with the exception of Tam, do most uber religious people like that marry really young?) and a lot of people do it because its just tradition. And really, its stupid that in the States you have to go through this antiquated ritual just to get those benefits. Its an expensive, pointless thing to me. Even if you're Christian, Jesus said its only for this life, which if you really have an immortal soul is only going to be a fraction of the time of your existence. Marriage seems to always have been about transferring the status property of women from her father's to her husband's, In Buddhism there's no "sacredness" about marriage because they knew it was strictly an economic exchange. And fuck I hate weddings, I'll only go if the person is really close, like immediate family or my very best friends.

And please, I know thats a lot of hate towards the whole idea of marriage but don't think I"m judging anyone here about it, I'm mostly thinking of people I know IRL, and while I'm against the idea I don't really care THAT much, if I were with someone I could see being with for the rest of my life and they really really wanted to get married, well we'd have a very nontraditional ceremony (my wedding fantasy: having a 200 dollar shindig here and then spending the rest of the money on going on a month long honeymoon, like China! Then our wedding album would be full of awesome. No, there wasn't a cake, but look, we were at the MOTHERFUCKING GREAT WALL, motherfucker.) I can't say I wouldn't compromise at all, although I'd demand we'd change most of the traditions.

Yes, some people can have cheap weddings. Still...it's THOUSANDS of dollars for a "cheap" wedding. That's just too much for a party.

Also, you didn't address what I said about not needing a piece of paper to love somebody.
