So my favorite sitcoms are.,
My wife and kids, according to jim, that 70's show, friends, 8 simple rules, scrubs (dr. Cox is my favorite character)

Peep Show, Saxondale (awesome compared to most of the recent output of British comedy!), Black Books (as recommended by the people here), I'm Alan Partirdge, Father Ted, Shameless (not really a sitcom but funnier than many actual ones).

I prefer British sitcoms on the whole - in American ones, everything's a bit too nice and everyone's a bit too pretty. In ours, life is genuinely shit and depressing but it's funny, which is what comedy is for in my eyes.

Those guys do drama better though. We have nothing to rival Deadwood, The Sopranos or The Wire.

I'm a fan of My Name is Earl and The Office. But like Disaffected Shoelaces pointed out, I think America does Drama better. I love HBO dramas like Deadwood and The Wire, as well as some others, particularly Battlestar Galactica.

Everything Beowulf listed, and most of what Disaffected Shoelaces did too. British sitcoms rule.

I'll also add the Mighty Boosh and Extras.

My Name is Earl and Scrubs are alright, but they're more "If nothing else is on TV" kind of things.

All the ones Beowulf listed along with: The Thin Blue Line (I LOVE 'Mr. Bean' -- Rowan Atkinson), Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances, The Good Life, and my all-time favorite (for Britcoms), Monty Python's Flying Circus.

For here, Scrubs is pretty much it. (I used to watch The Cosby Show, but most sitcoms are just too contrived).

This, every word.

I also like me some Red Dwarf. The British do comedy so much better than us.

Love the Young Ones, Fawlty Towers, the Mighty Boosh, Flight Of the Conchords, the Addams Family (and the Munsters, to a lesser and also greater degree) and Seinfield. I can't think of any more - I rarely watch these even.
