"A Song"

lyrics to "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants From the album FLOOD

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul (Istanbul)
Istanbul (Istanbul)

------------

By the way, Apocalypse, nice intro. And methinks me likes the timber of yer swagger! Arrrrrgh!

I think you'll fit in here just fine. Your age is an asset, because your intelligence and articulate speech will allow you to communicate a unique viewpoint.

You devil!...I was just about to post that song. Yarr, and me thinks Ben Lahnger be a nice bloke, gearrgh! Speaking of pirates, I bear a strange resemblence to a pirate. I need a beard though. Plus I look like a fool scratching my chin pensively sans beard.

To sum it all up, I be glad that you all (y'all, perhaps?) seem to have such warm feelings for me. I shant dissapointed you!

I'm surprised you haven't changed your alternative title to be 'I'm to saxy for this post', that'd be spot on!

Ben, I LOVE YOU! Knowing the name of that song and the band was EXTRA CREDIT on my world history test! *hug*

Wow! What incredible luck! Jane, I so glad my long-term affection for a wacky little band called "They Might Be Giants" resulted in you getting extra credit. I wish I could claim I was prescient enough to know you were going to need that info ... the song was just a perfect follow-up to your post. So hurray for synchronicity!

Corporal, yep, that and "Build A Little Bird House In Your Soul" are both from the album FLOOD, and they are my two favorite TMBG songs.

And I have to say that you have very good taste!

Yep, that's it! It still is my favorite album by them. I also love "Your Racist Friend" and "Whistling In The Dark" and "Twisting" and ...

The best thing about that album is that there are 19 songs on it. If you don't like a song, you don't have to wait long for something different to come on. Oh, and "Minimum Wage" is cute too.

I have been flirting with the album APOLLO 18 a bit lately too.

By the way, Apocalypse, any fifteen year old who knows his They Might Be Giants references is a friend of mine!

Jesus Christ! you are supremely over critical, lighten up a bit, what, going to report me to Johnny Q Law? I wasn't being serious at any stretch of the imagination, but apparently everything I say seems to offend you.

Once again, I haven't be living with a tribe of hunter gatherers my entire life, I know the law.

Now, please don't be such a wench.

Look, only 2 days and already someone doesn't like me.

Enemy count: entire board. thats gotta be a record.

On the account of the fact that I suck at life, will never amount to anything, and accoring to some, I have no genitals, I will be leaving.
Seems I'm too offensive, annoying, impulsive, arrogant, and downright mean to be allowed. I don't hate mentally retarded kids, I just think some of them are wasting tax money by being in public schools when it can't help them. Thats all I was trying to say, I guess I was being too general, forgive me.

I BID YOU ALL ADIEU! Love, prosper, peace, and no hard feelings?

-grimace- Ooh. Put some ice on that burn...

By the by, a "drain on society" comment isn't the same as "public schools do not help them" comment.

Just so you know.

That devolved rather quickly.

Well, I've been known to dance on a grave or two!

Now that you've(entire board) effectively blown the situation WAY out of proportion, to think, one little thing I misstated and now the entire forum is bringing the hammer of justice down on me.

So any administrative types feel like deleting my account, go right ahead.

And just to let you know, I've always been very nice to the mentally handicapped, hell, I've even invited one to play frisbee with me not but last week. ALL I'm saying is that the severely mentally handicapped can gain nothing from public schools, so that is a DRAIN on YOUR tax money, plus isn't it painful for them to shipped around like meat by irratating nurses?

and of course nobody is going to believe because they all blew off the handle before I could even explain myself

a word to the "wise" If someone says something stupid, dont just say "Go the fuck away, piece of shit." actually inquire as to what they think.

and I only wish you all the best. Seriously.
