What colour did you dye your hair?

I need suggestions, my black and red hair is getting really boring. Plus, the red starts to fade an turns and ugly orange. (my hair is naturally dark)

You have the same problem as I do...No matter how awsome my hair is, I get tired of it in a month...
you could dye your hair black purple...that was always one of my favourite colors.

Haircolor and Hairstyles Mega Thread. Use "The Glow", grasshopper, and not only will you find your answer but you will also catch bullets with your teeth and date Vanity while eating popcorn with chopsticks.

(Seriously, just go backwards on the board or search for it. It's not THAT hard.)

I know you're new...but you seem as if only your alias is new. We haven't used the Hair Megathread in forever.

I dyed my hair black for a couple months once, but I've since allowed it to grow out. I've always wanted to try white or an extremely fair blonde, but as of yet have been deterred from doing so by the fear that I'd either fuck up the delicate process which effecting a dramatic change in hair coloration necesitates or just look hideous with lighter hair.

For the record, I joined in August and I am aware of the hair megathread.

I've got ass-length auburn/red hair, and dye the tips with directions rose red, fading into directions poppy red, fading into my natural colour. Looks pretty cool, a kind of raspberry and ginger scheme!

Huh. I didn't know so many newbies knew we had it. I had forgotten about the megathreads myself, since we haven't used them in so long.

I joined in October and posted in it... ^_^ But got only one response.

I want to dye my hair, but I'm very timid about it. I have dark brown hair, and I'd like to go to the edge of black, but not quite. Almost a coffee colour, but I don't know how best to do so. I'm thinking of doing it professionally, but I don't know what I need to tell them so it doesn't get 'effed up...

Tell them to do a 6ish week color GLAZE. This way if you hate it, it will eventually wash out and the glaze colors do no damage at all (they actually condition your hair and seal it for healthier hair and add a lot of shine). Pick out a color with them from samples and if you do not see one you like exactly ask them to add a touch or red if you want that color but slightly warmer, etc. They can mix them. Dying your hair darker does not hurt the hair as much as going lighter (bleaching it out does the most harm) but the problem with black or any very dark is that if you do not like it it is very, very hard to get out and even when you can get it out, the process destroys your hair. Getting it out after years of dying it is usually a several month long process with multiple salon visits for around 4-6 hours each to strip out and recolor to a darker red (as light as they can get it) then a month or so later a lighter red, etc...and if you damage your hair too much it gets porous and will not hold color at all. Then your only real choice is platinum blond and letting it grow all the way out until you can cut it off, hoping the new color to KEEP it almost white as your roots grow out does not do as much damage either, before you can redye it.

If you like your glaze color you can always go back in a few weeks and have the permanent done. However if your own hair color is already so dark, it's a lot better for your hair to just do the glaze more often, then you get no damage and never have to go through the removal process. It lasts almost as long as permanent too (as far as the time before you have to dye your roots again). If it is way different than your natural color (like blond to dark brown) or black to strawberry blond, etc...then it would require permanent color or bleaching.

I love bleach blonde but you can't do it on dyed black hair.

I was actually thinking of doing that. I'm thinking of buying a hair straightener, dying my hair a DARK purple with black highlights, and keeping it straight for as long as I please.

I dye my natural strawberry blond hair bright cherry red. It looks quite nice when my face is gently paled out.

I use to be platnium. It look lovely but after a few touchups the bleach started to make my scalp bleed a little. I think I am allergic. It never happens when I use darker colors (red or brown or black or whatever) but if I bleach I always end up bleeding.

I've dyed my hair blue, purple, pink, and red. I also had white for a while, but that was just because I bleached before I found the dye, so I spent several days ransacking my house for dye...

My hair has been black, MANY shades of red, a few shades of brown, and even blonde (in high school - oh what a mistake that was). My natural hair color was bright red as a child and slowly darkened up to a dark red-brown.

The last time I dyed my hair I used Natural Match "natural black", and it looked AWESOME - not that fakey kind of black, which is important since I not only have pale skin but freckles as well. It faded after a couple of months, though, and my roots aren't showing now because it faded almost to my natural color (even though the length of my hair was dyed bright red before that).

I'm thinking about using Henna and Indigo next time (to make it blackish again), because it's natural and actually GOOD for your hair, won't fade (from what I've heard), etc. Problem is you have to take longer for it to set (like 2-3 hours) and it's not as easy to do, especially if you have long hair like me.
