Talking Write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days, quantity NOT quality!

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/whatisnano

I love the concept. I'm going to do it. Great practice.

"Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to try this...It certainly will aid in quashing my perfectionism about writing.

Now I just need to brainstorm some ideas...

I've been planning on doing this for a while- not sure if I'll be able to reconcile it with my college freshman workload, though.

I would try this, but I tend to be a really big self-critic so it will be even more hard. LOL. Sounds interesting though.

I only made it to 2,000 something last year. I need to take that advice and just write crap when it comes out that way. I was way too intense about it and making mistakes.

Gah, I always hated the idea. Why write so much if it isn't going to have care put into it?

Though I suppose I could be looking at it wrong. Perhaps it's the literary version of drawing abstract lines and seeing where it goes. I still wouldn't waste my time, though.

Writing is never a waste of time for a writer . If you only focus at the negative aspect (not having enough time to think twice) then you'll never be able to finish any work ...

I'm with you , people , I'll do it!! :-)

I love the idea of this, but I don't think I could just crank out something without care. I'm for quality, not quantity.

I made an outline for my novel this year. I can't wait until I actually begin writing. *crosses fingers*

I've finally decided on the title for this year's novel: "Cat Scratch Fever"

And have I worked in depth on the plot? Not so much.

Ooh, I did this last year.

The finished product was total crap, but I got it finished.

It's definitely worth trying, especially if you can't get your inner editor to shut up.

I'm going with a fairytale for children. Like Harry Potter or A Series of Unfortunate Events. A lot of twists, though.

Ah ... the old NanoWriMo.

God I hate it, it makes me have to actually ignore my harsh inner critic, seek my oft truant muse, and pound the damn keys...

I'm doing it unofficially for two reasons.

1. Like last year, I won't finish it, certainly not by the deadline anyway.

2. Unlike last year, I have a week on vacation to blame for it.

But also unlike last year, I have a general idea what I'm going to write about and its enough to likely double 50 thousand words.

This is my second attempt at NaNoWriMo, last year I didn't make the 50,000 word limit. It's a great way to keep a writer on their toes.

Oy Gevalt. I managed to get 10,000 words in the first week and then...?

Well, then I gave up. 'Twas worth it, though, at least in my realizing that I can write a fair amount (of crap) in a short period of time...

Thought I would necro this one since November is almost here.
Clear the cobwebs from your craniums and shake off the writer's block, time for the greatest practice of all!

NaNoWriMo!

So, we have to write from scratch. No taking a preexisting manuscript and editing for 30 days. Bummer. That would send my 'inner editor' into overdrive, since I work as a medical editor and the typos I 'drop' on this website drive me to distraction. Must think this over. Would wind up with basically a supermarket tabloid, only worse. But, I like a challenge. Hmmm. Thanks HP. I may have found a much-needd 'creative outlet.' (ITMT - must get back to work).

I'd like to attempt this, dunno if I'll have the time though. Or the willpower for that matter ^_^ but it would be fun just to try.
