Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

while I am certainly no fan of either...far too angry for me. I have a cousin who loves nu metal and all that whiny teen stuff, and you might try a group called mushroom head. They are more underground and may be harder to find, but they too have the stupid 1000000 members thing going on, and wear masks. There is a lot of talk on the nu metal scene that slipknot stole their look from mushroom head. He drug me to one of their shows some years back...I had to hold back my urge to vomit the entire time but i'm almost positive that if you like korn and slipknot you would like them

Does this not happen to be a goth forum, and, and the risk of insulting one of the spooky kiddies out there (more than slightly hypocritical being only 14 myself, but anyway.....) Slipknot and Korn have very little to do with the "goth" music scene. There seem to be far too many of the little kiddie folk like moi who are convinced that goth-nu metal...... owell eh. Rant over. Bye

not that there is anything wrong with Slipknot or Korn. Each to his/her/? own, but pleeeaaassseeeeee don't make out like its "goth". It be far from the goth side of music. (If I'm irritating you throw something at me)

First off, you should know that overhyped bands like Korn and Slipknot are not only spat at on these forums, but in gothic culture in general. If you truly like them, though (meaning you have and enjoy at least one of their albums) then good for you. Your musical tastes are your own and that's what matters. Be yourself! If, however, like most of their fans, you're just riding the popularity train on these bands, for fuck's sake listen to something else!

It is fairly easy for a listener of the genre that has been dubbed "Nu Metal" to compare the two biggest bands of the genre, Korn and Slipknot.
These two chartopping bands can very well be seen as "big and little brothers".
Korn exploded on the scene in 1994 revolutionizing the industrial/rap/metal sound.
And one year later Slipknot formed around the idea if one shitty Los Angeles band can become as popular and loved by teenagers around the world than an even shittier 9 piece band from Iowa with dumbass stage antics could become even more popular with the same little kids.

Was this thread really supposed to be taken seriously?
My bad.

I don't loathe Korn and Slipknot's music, as many of you seem to, though their carefully crafted images bore me. I first got to know the bands completely out of context while living in Bolivia, and thoroughly enjoyed their music for a while. I still listen to a few select songs at times.
As for who is better, I'd say Korn. They have a talented singer and better lyrics than Slipknot (but then again, who doesn't? "Marlon Brando's eyes"? What the fuck were they thinking?). Besides, they made a cool cover of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall. Stupid band name, though...

I think I'll agree with Circle...The second one is better.

I dont understand why liking a certain band can make you more immature and not grown up Demonista. Just wondering, no offense. I still like them, and I am 20 years old. I like a variety of music, from Disturbed, to Korn and Slipknot, to Cradle to Cannibal Corpse, Heaven Shall Burn, and As I Lay Dying. I was under the impression that goth is about liking whatever you like and not caring about other people's thoughts or opinions. I like Slipknot a little bit more than Korn, but I do love both and would go to either concert in a heart beat. Does that make me any less of a goth or any more childish than you or anyone else here?
