Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Political music

What bands do you know that center their lyrics on something politically activist?
Obviously there's a lot of hip hop and punk bands that are heavily political, and I want to know more bands. I'm just getting tired of bands that have no ideology.
Here's a list of most of my political bands:
A Spectre Is Haunting Europe
Against All Authority
Against Me!
All Gone Dead
Antibalas
Bob Dylan
The Clash
Conflict
Dead Kennedys
Dead Prez
Discharge
Flux of Pink Indians
The Deep Eynde
Discharge
Jefferson Airplane
Leftover Crack
Phil Ochs
Rage Against the Machine
Rudimentary Peni
The Scooterz
The Sisters of Mercy
This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb
The World/Inferno Friendship Society

Help me make the list bigger.

I heard that The cure's new album is going to have some political songs, but who knows when that album is ever going to come out!

The Varukers and Crass come to mind, though I can't stand the latter.

M.I.A. is pretty political.
"Kala" is a wonderful album, by the way.

Good stuff. The ultimate political album for me is the "Not So Quiet On The Western Front" punk comp from the early 80's. If you can find it, get it.

Yea, M.I.A. is great, and I want to dress like her.
I DO have a ridiculously tacky shiny gold jacket.
True story.

Sweet. I want some bondage pants. Badteccy, you what you should play on your show? Cococoma! Check them out they just released an album on Goner Records. The best track on there is "Too Tired" its garage punk with a keyboard!

Meh, I don't play much punk on my show anymore.
However, this Wednesday I am playing Crass, Flux of Pink Indians, and Rudimentary Peni, and Tilt

Um... Laibach? Nitzer Ebb?

Mussolini Headkick
Borghesia

If my partner was with me right now, she'd probably be able to compile a fairly comprehensive list for you.

All Gone Dead?

I like them, but political wise, they strike me as someone hitting issues that are blatantly obvious. Blood for oil tripe. Love them, but they DO get pretty cheesy sometimes.

Yeah, but their song Just 80 Miles West was worth mentioning.

Green.Lady actually went through a phase of listening to nothing but punk music a couple of years ago. The Varukers are one of the punk bands (along with The Clash and The Adicts, as you know) that's remained on my list of favourites.

I'd put ALL GONE DEAD into the same "sophomoric" political camp as TRAGIC BLACK. If you're going to try and write serious lyrics you need to spend as much time on your lyrics as you do on your hair and makeup.

There are alot of musically really good punk bands who I just can't get past the politics (i.e. WHITE PRIDE, although they were not really serious about it, too many did take them very seriously).

I would agree for the most part. AGD and TB kinda strike me as people who haven't faced much hardship. I could be wrong.

But they think they have because they had to live in Salt Lake City. Oh the pain. oh the sorrow.
