Crinkle Style Skirt

I bought a beautiful black crinkle skirt that looked amazing on me and I LOVED it.... Until I washed it and all the crinkles fell out. The care instructions read, "machine wash, cool water, twist into loose knot and hang dry". Well, I followed that and the skirt looks totally different and I HATE it. It just looks really wrinkled, and all the wrinkles fall out within an hour of me putting it on, leaving me looking frumpy and old ladyish. Does anyone have any idea how I might re-create the original crinkle style? The fabric is cotton...

While it is wet you twist it as though you are wringing the water out of it. Keep twisting it tightly until it loops back on itself and then tie it in a knot. You might want to use some clothes pegs (pins) or a rubber band to make sure that it stays twisted all of the way to the bottom. Then you leave it to dry. Once it is dry keep it knotted when you put it in the drawer, and only unknot it to wear it.

If it still isn't crinkling properly, you could try using spray starch on it before doing the above... that might help the crinkles hold.

Mine have always stayed crinkled when I've used this method.. but I've always hand-washed mine.

Yes, I wish I'd hand washed it to begin with.... I'll try the rubber bands and starch, thank you....

If it doesn't work you should take it back to the store and explained that you have washed it as the directions stated and it isn't working.

I have another idea, but maybe it doesn't work... what about ironing it and trying to make wrinkles with the iron? Maybe it's easier to secure the wrinkles with the iron once that you have dried it twisted...

Unfortunately, returning it isn't really an option.....I bought the skirt from the store I work at, to wear at work, and have already done so dozens of times....If I can't get it right, I'll just wear it anyway and deal with looking a bit "old ladyish". I thought about trying with the iron but wasn't sure where to start....
