New to any kind of forum!~

Heyo! My name is CyclopsGhost and I am new to this forum and basically any kind of forum ever. I have a few questions about goth, so if there are any people willing to help me out, please do so!

1: Is it possible to still be goth but be more interested in the literature than anything else?
2: Is Victorian inspired goth a 'valid' form of goth? I consider myself a wayward Victorian goth but have been told that it is not goth.
3: Is it possible to be goth while not wearing black? I like to wear the darker end of the spectrum, of course, but I prefer greys and plums and dark green. Of course I still wear black, but I am curious.

I would like to point out that I'm not 12, so please don't treat me like it...Just because I have questions does not mean I'm automatically hella young.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes

Being Goth is more a state of mind / way of life, it is about not following the sheep and about being you. There are no laws about what you should wear / watch / read / listen to. There have been many things written as guides as to how to dress, who to listen to but these are guides not laws/rules. There are also many gothic subcultures. Just be yourself and you'll do fine!

Hi, and welcome. I'd say that's all pretty valid. Changing from what you like to fit in would be buying into conformity and pretty boring.

1) Yes,most Goth's read and love literature.
2) you can be as Victorian goth as you like.
3)Yes, I know some Goths dress all white the color of death in Asia.

You should not put allot of stock in what some other persons said ? Was this person from the goth licensing board ?
Were they handing out Goth cred membership cards ?

You just be Goth in your own way.

Greetings and welcome CyclopsGhost, from what you've said it is clearly evident that you are one of us. Whoever told you that Victorian is not avalid expression of goth is themselves not goth (more fascist I'd say). As others have so eloquently said - YES to all your questions. I love literature too, feel free to talk to me about it. The point of a forum is to talk and discuss anything you like including literature. I cultivate Victorian manners myself but minus the sexism. As Oscar Wilde said, "A gentleman is never rude, unintentionally."

Welcome CyclopsGhost <3

Victorian Gothic is my bag too
Also hahaa I too am far from 12.
As dear Alexander Pope said "A little learning is a dangerous thing"
I rejoice that you query, I too enjoy learning ...
Isn't that what this life is really all about?
To seek and gain knowledge .. a lust for life
I loved reading la classics in my youth, alas these days time permits me to read literature regarding my new pursuits more so than novels. At present I'm eating books on dressmaking and tailoring lol ..

Really dandy to have you here, look forward to chats!

Hello CyclopsGhost,

I first want to point out that I am not a very Fashion-Oriented person,
Lots of black, with occasional sprinklings of dark greens, gray, or dark reds.
So I might be ill suited to comment.

The thing I always want to tell people when they ask 'Goth' questions is...
(And I can only speak for myself)
It's Okay to be you,
Find comfort in who you are, Let your Inner Goth radiate out of you like a Black Light, and your look will come... Naturally. Don't be afraid to try new things. At the end of the day, if you don't feel comfortable with something, at least you had the balls to try. As we are all different, so too is our variations on the 'Goth' thing. And if sincere, I think they're all valid.

Ugh hierarchy isn't it disdainful!
I was unaware that there was a Gothic branch in the police o.O
Victorian not Gothic!? Have you ever in your life!? :o
I agree wholeheartedly with Pr1aP1sm, what a lovely and encompassing phrase.
Be You <3 .. It's ok to be You ... I like that! Hell, I love it!

Deep plum, isn't that a gorgeous colour btw
I have a lot of black clothing, but sometimes I'll see a colour and be drawn.
Perhaps it's mood dependent .. or a certain colour suits a garment better?
Black's a safe colour, at least that's how I feel ~ good ol' black <3
But any colour can be Gothic surely? Depends on the garment, its material/fabric type and how it is worn? I must admit, I don't like pastel shades, baby pinks, baby blues etc .. I think the clue's in the name ...
Perhaps only suiting small infants?
Having said that Pastel Goths love these shades!
Who are we to judge? They rock them

P.S. I'm not hugely fond of brown but it's a Steampunk's staple.
And have to say they look glorious!
