Old Ministry vs'...well, Ministry

so the other day i'm at a buddies, lookin' through his CD's, and i stumble across Ministry's "Effigy" from 1983 (i think)....now, i thought "Twitch" was essentially the first Ministry album, but sure as shit, itz Alain Jourgassein (spelling) doin' his thing....now, my buddy told me that A.J. denies the album exists, but sure as shit, it does....

so i listen to it, and man....lemme tell ya, itz about as 80's dance-electronica as you can get.....and i quite enjoyed it....if you have "Twitch" or heard it, imagine "Twitch" a lil' more mainstream and played in 80's dance clubs....

so lately i've been in a Ministry kick...currently listenin' to "Land of **** and Honey"....a classic Ministry album, but i just thought what ya'll think of Ministry....

i personally like just about every Ministry album (except "Filth Pig" and "Dark Side of the Spoon") but lately, itz all about old skool Ministry for me...

Yep, I remember first hearing it ten years ago when I was currently absorbed with Psalm 69, and couldn`t believe my ears.....

I haven`t really followed them all that close since Psalm, but still enjoy their early albums the most.....

Ministry went down the shitter with "Psalm", and continues going deeper, as far as I'm concerned.

Howver, those old albums (from "With Sympathy" to "Mind") hold up really well, as do all the weird little side projects (Revolting Cocks=Ministry doing Sly And The Family Stone, LARD=Ministry with Jello Biafra, 1,000 Homo DJ's=SUPERNAUT!, and my fave, Pailhead=Ministry with Fugazi....swoon!)

Well, I guess Psalm is when Ministry started going from coldwave/industrial to full on metal.....
I dunno, I liked that album but haven`t really paid attention to anything after.... what I heard didn`t interest me so much.

Psalm 69 and The Mind Is a Terrible Thing To Waste are my fave 2 albums.

I can't bring myself to listen to the synth-pop stuff they put out in the 80's, but they switched into overdrive in the 90's and I for one appreciatte the extra Nitro.

The first time I heard twitch a did a double take. Since I was just learning to tinkle and what not in the eighties I heard newer ministry first. I definetly like the older sministry better though.

I like both.

I like the synth-pop they did early on and the later (speed-metal?) that they evolved into. They were both good and I like seeing a good group get better with age.

That first Ministry album sucks shit except for Revenge and maybe Say You're Sorry. Everything forward from that is better. Mind and Land are excellent.

The current threads suck. Why make a new one when the thoughts of others are already here on topic?

Work for Love is a kinky track, mate. Down put em down, for shit's sake REVENGE? Oh god.

Ya'all bitch too much about the early Ministry. Sure it's not Industrial 'METAL' (a joke of a term) but it's not bad stuff, favored by more of us in goth/industrial scene then the albums that followed. Al was both pressured and made changes on his own, but for me it's safe to say I wasn't fond of the one extremes he transitioned to. But I gotta give him credit because he put out a shitload of work we all can enjoy...unless you just hate em.
The most balanced record would be The Mind is a terrible thing to taste
when Al had somewhat of a voice left in him (see Cannibal Song, Burning inside). I'm didn't really dig **** and Honey, execpt for Stigmata.

What is interesting though is to see how much Uncle Al changed to aspiring sex symbol to drunken goofball. Too lazy to post a link, but check out the differences in both era and style.

OP: Learn how to fucking spell. I don't care how old this thread is, c'mon.

I agree The Mind is a terrible thing to taste is probably one of their best CDs.

I think I recall an early ministry song called everyday is Holloween that I thought was pretty cool.
