S&M Barbie

'S&M Barbie' sparking outrage among Christian groups
8 hours 43 minutes ago. | Jesse Perez

She’s gone through a range of changes in her long career, from Rockstar through to high powered businesswoman. But her latest incarnation, the S&M styled ‘Black Canary Barbie’, is showing off her wilder side – and it’s caused a big stir among Christian groups in America.

Kitted out with kinky fishnets, black gloves and motorcycle boots – the new Barbie is leagues away from her more wholesome look nearly 50 years ago, when she was first released.

The new toy is based on D.C Comics’ Black Canary – a leather clad martial arts expert who has a killer scream – and joins a bevy of D.C based Barbie’s. Previous releases saw Batgirl and Wonder-Woman with their own Barbification.

But although the release of the toy is a nod to classic female superheroes, it hasn’t stopped Christian groups from being outraged by Black Canary’s saucy outfit.

Religious group Christian Voice has stated: “Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far.

A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible – it’s filth.”

Haha I just saw that on i-am-bored.

It sure beats those tacky, neon orange jump suits and garish hot-pink bikinis my childhood Barbies had.

The thing about this is that the doll isn't intended for children anyway.
It's made for collectors and comic book nerds.

That's what I was telling my friend on the phone, I don't understand why everyone's making a fuss because it's the same as the Catwoman barbie and the Electra barbie basically.

Well Barbie has always been a slut. :P

Yeah this is definately for collectors. I don't understand why people are getting so worked up. Barbie has always had very slutty clothes. This is just one that's more obvious. If it's not for children then what's the big deal? Personally, I have never liked Barbie dolls.

*is reminded of the song Barbie Girl*

Some folks [and organizations, apparently] just need something to complain about. :P

I would buy this Barbie. I actually think it's a neat idea to put that kind of spin on Barbie.

I personally think People just like to moan and complain about things and they use there faith and beliefs to do so XD

I don't see whats wrong the doll, I mean if they don't want they're kids to have it don't buy it for them XD It's kind of common sense XD

And also its like totally not really for children so i don't see the problem XD

(Yeah Barbie has all ways been in mini skirts and high heels XD I remember cut my barbies hair off XD I think i dyed it back once.... and use to make gothic clothes for it.... XD I was a scary kid)

As Ophelia pointed out, it's not for children anyhow. It's an obvious point. Besides, if I had a child, it's up to me what he/she plays with. Not some group of people I have never met. It's my job to mother my child, not theirs. And besides, how many children really know what S&M is anyhow? Most of them would think it's just barbie in fishnets and a black swimsuit with a jacket. It doesn't even really look too S&M anyhow. Is it the Vinyl? Is it the Black? Is it the stockings?

Besides, has everyone forgot that the original idea for Barbie, the German Lilli doll, was an adult toy in the first place?
"She was originally marketed to adults in bars and tobacco shops as a joke or gag gift. Many parents considered her not appropriate for children. Ariel Levy refers to her as a "sex doll" in Female Chauvinist Pigs. A German brochure from the 1950s states that Lilli was "always discreet," and that her wardrobe made her "the star of every bar." Although the doll was originally not designed as a children's toy she eventually became popular with children" -Wikipedia..
So perhaps she's just going back to her roots.

I can't believe that people are complaining about this when there are already so many dolls that look like hookers. Take for instance Bratz dolls, they have hoochie babies, typical tramps, and girls who could be working on a corner, and those dolls are actually being marketed to young girls

Well, the thing is, they said they didn't really like Barbie to begin with, so they probably don't appreciate Bratz dolls either. :/

I think folks like this find it their purpose in life to try and "Christianize" America/The World, but not in a way that God would approve of, in my opinion. >_<

I imagine that they would know about S&M the same that most folks do: the Internet and Pornography. And shows like CSI. Not to mention former members of the BDSM community who decided to convert because they didn't feel BDSM fit in with their new Christian lifestyle.

Ok, I'm gonna stop rambling now.........

Google image search "Tubgirl", look for a video for "Mr. Hands", I'm not gonna go into details. And don't say I didn't warn you, cause I'm warning you.

I guess that's the best-looking Barbie doll I've ever seen. Doesn't mean much, but it's always nice to piss christians off.

Aw, it's Black Canary. Awesome.

When I was a kid, I loved Barbies. Dressing them up, coloring their hair with markers, playing out little soap operas, it was great fun. I would have loved to get a Black Canary and a Wonder Woman Barbie.
