Vintage 1980's clothes

Say, I just scored a 1980's jean jacket from my buddy! He bought it for $8 new 20 years ago. It was stone washed. Now it is yellowed with time, and has tears her and there. But I love it, and it fits me okay.

Anybody have any ideas to give it a gothy touch?

Well first of all I would give it a good thorough cleaning, it is a bit dingy for my taste.

You can also put some patches on it to give it a bit more personality and to modernize it. You could also dye it to make it a bit more modern as well as make it a really interesting piece (colored denim is in right now but you should stick to a darker color if you do as anything light will just make it look even more dated).

It is filthy. He gave it to me a few hours ago. He pulled from his closet and gave it to me. But the yellow I can't explain, he doesn't smoke.
Considering it's condition I will wash it. But we have modern detergent that won't fade colors. I bought the stuff with the black cap.

If you dye it, use LIQUID RIT dye. The powder stuff sucks balls. Two bottles of black liquid rit dye in a hot hot hot bucket of water should dye the whole jacket a nice, dark, midnight blue black.

Fabric paint some of your favorite lyrics or sayings on the sleeves or put some band patches or social movement patches you support on it.

Hell, sew on a big fat blank patch on it and then use fabric paint to paint a cool looking picture on it.

You can also add studs to it or use parts of panty hose as spiderwebbing effects.

That's what I would do... That's what I did, actually.

I think it'd be cool to dye it a chocolate black. It'll look black, but still look dingy, dated, and rugged.

Or, just Re-dye it dark blue, Oh and you could replace the buttons: heres an example of some pretty cool ones:

You definantly need to re-dye it though, the yellow part is disgusting.

That too could work. It would actually have more personality that way.

Deja Vu. Your cat almost did the same pose for your leather jacket:

Puss looks like he put on some weight since May.

I thought someone would have noticed this!
Yeah, she was curious about what I was working on, so she came in and took a peek. Maybe she did put some weight on, I have been feeding her some better food since then. She's my little friend.

That jacket is not what I want to focus on, its great but I got this black wool jacket at a thrift store. It cost me $25. Not bad.
I hung it on the wall and took the picture.
The flash was on, but that jacket sucked all the light in. I had to take the image on my computer and CRANK up the brightness in order for you to make it out. Otherwise, it would have been a black shape.
Ha! you know something is goth when it eats light eh?

I love that jacket, this would be the one I would sew the coffin buttons onto. That would look good.

After washing the Jacket, I would dye it black. Then flick bleach on it with a paintbrush. Maybe add a back patch or something. You could sew or glue on some straps buckles and zips as well, but that may not look superb.

I am dying it black with some Rit Dye. It is sitting in my kitchen sink soaking right now in the hot stew!

I can't remember if I saved the hi-res pictures I took of the jacket when I first got it. Oh well, I'll use the little ones I uploaded to photobucket.

Damnit! It didn't turn out! It came out nearly black with a hint of blue!
I wanted JET BLACK!
How much of this shit do I need to use!? I used one box of the tint to dye ONE jacket! I guess I need to use two next time, what a waste. Every time I try to dye somthing, it doesn't come out bright enough or dark enough.

The fucking shower pole fell down and the jacket rubed against some bleach residue from another failed DIY, so that explains the marks on the lower left side of the jacket. I am pissed at my inability to do anything right! Fuck!

It is a little damp, so it will get lighter. Shit! It is yet another failed diy that is headed for the trash. Go Opteron go!

Dude flick some bleach on that and it could look pretty awesome, even if it isn't what you originally intended. Remember that sometimes things don't turn out the way you want but you can still make them great.

Wow, I feel old reading about "vintage" jean-jackets from the 80s. It's strange how things change because the jacket is probably much cooler now than it was when it was new. Back in the 80s no real punk or goth would have been caught dead in a jean-jacket. They were closely linked with hair metal bands like Poison, Cinderella and Motley Crue.

I say baptize that fucker in black dye and introduce it to the 80s music it missed the first time around with some Bauhaus, Siouxsie and Christian Death patches.

I used too much damn water and too little dye. Oh well. I will try again.
I was thinking of trying to stenzil on something with bleach afterwords?

I don't particularly care for the denim jacket, but I'm drooling at the idea of the black coat with the coffin buttons. MUST HAVE.
