I know Prom is stupid, but...

In a school with fights every single day and being dressed up is only for Halloween, it should be a great break. I didn't go through 4 years of high school just to sit at home and wait impatiently for graduation!

What's everyone else's views on Prom?

I wish I had been able to go to Prom, that's just my view. *sniffle* I'm still sad about it.

I'm happy to go without it, not only is the music terrible, the philsophy is terrible it's bad enough that school is an unwritten popularity contest, prom is deliberately built around being a popularity contest. My money is better spent elsewhere. That brings up one upside to my school district's budget cuts, this is the last year they'll be having prom! Death to the idea that popularity will get you on top over anything else!

Ugh, prom. I'm with Renatus on this one. It's just a huge popularity contest, and it's just too much money. My school is asking for nearly two hundred bucks just to attend. So, fuck it. I won't bother. I'll have my own little party.

Plus, the guy that wanted to take me... ew. Never. I wouldn't be caught dead with him. He's a psychopath.

I went, and I'm glad I did, our tickets were $50 per person, $90 per couple (I went as my best friend's date), and yeah the music was shit but it was fun and it is something that a lot of people regret not doing. Although I doubt that I would have gone if tickets were more than $75 or so

Wow, my school sold tickets for $40, and that was the highest they got. You could get them for $25 when they first started selling them.

Back in the 80's when I would have gone, the music would have been good. I don't regret not going as much as it hurts that nobody asked me. I was cute, but my high school was so freaking cliquey. If I hadn't moved to a different state at the beginning of my junior year, I know I would have gone to Prom at my super-cool old high school. My bitter is showing.

The music would have been great at my old high school. We had a little of everything there, and all groups were accepted and not made fun of. My newer high school, if you weren't the cheerleader or jock type, you were an outcast. And all they ever listened to was country. Hick High.

I went to the prom when I was in year 11. My best friend and 'prom date' organised it, so it wasn't the usual crapfest. The best part was when all the 'cool kids' left the venue to go out to the shitty techno clubs and get drunk. Only my friends and I were left, so we went up to the DJ booth (the guy obviously had no idea what he was doing) and demanded all the 80's music he had - I tried asking for gothic rock but all I got was a look of major confusion.

So we had an awesome time dancing to Cyndi Lauper and even some of the Cure and eating the fancy desserts left uneaten by the 100 or so people that left, haha.

Had the night turned out any other way though, yeah, it would have sucked.

We never had proms but we had the Debutante Ball and the school formal. I never did my Deb because I couldn't get a partner and avoided my school formal for various reasons...

I didn´t even go to my prom. I never really liked my classmates, anyway, you go if you feel like it.

I don't see why people insist on going to prom with a date. What's wrong with going alone?

Nothing. The girl I asked said yes and then couldn't go because of a trip.

So yeh I would have gone alone, but took a friend that wasn't in my school (as she wouldn't have been able to go otherwise). Not everyone took a date.

Ours was a bit shit, they had far too little food, and what they did have was stupid. BBQ ribs to eat standing up with people wearing tuxes or dresses... yeh thats a good idea. Music was all awful, and the DJ parked himself and all his gear infront of the main doors to the garden, so everyone ended up using a window. I just sat outside talking to people. My uni freshers ball was pretty bad too, the queue to get in was ridculous and it cost £25 which went to towards nothing as far as I could tell.

Nothing, but at my school we HAD to have a date. We weren't allowed to go alone, or with friends of the same sex. Ridiculous.

Anyway, I went to both my proms because I loved dressing up. My dad, in an absurd and rare act of goodwill, got me a limo for me and my buds. It was bitchin.

That's why I don't want to go to prom with him. He scares me.

Proms have only taken off here recently. They were unheard of when I was at school ( oh fuck me...9 YEARS AGO!! .....I'm old ) , and considered purely an American phenomenon. The closest I have been to anything resembling a prom was the end of year college party back in 2001. And it wasn't a case of people taking a date with them, everyone just turned up in groups to the local club. It was quite shit actually.

We didn't have a prom thing at our school. Other schools did. I remember looking out the window watching my friend in her pretty orange dress getting into a red convertible sport car of some sort with her boyfriend.

My views?
Well the whole thing with paying for a car e.g limo, to arrive in? wtf is the point? paying £150 for a 5 minute drive, Do your friends and other students from your school really give a shit about car you are turning up in? Your not going to stay in the car to make it worth it so whats the point?

Then there's the whole bring a date thing?
What wrong with turning up with your mates and just having a laugh and maybe asking that girl out AT the prom. And when you get there you don't stay with your date the whole time anyways!
Ok so the thought of that cute guy asking you to "go to the prom" is nice but still. If you was going to ask a girl out you would do it to a place where its just them and you. Right? Make it special.

The dress?
Well! my aunt bought my cousin a dress for £100 and by the end of the night she had a big red stain down the front of it.
If I was going to wear a prom dress I wouldn't go spending shit loads of cash on it and I certainly wouldn't want to get drink splashed up it but if it happens it wouldn't matter cos I probably would have only spent about £15 on a dress anyways.

Prom king and queen?
Pfft.

Aw I'm going to attend prom with my friend. I think that although the music will be unsatisfactory, dressing up and dancing should be enjoyable. I dislike the majority of students, and couldn't care less if I never set eyes on them again. But I think that he and I will have a good time. Plus we're going to be attending different colleges, so it's a nice way to say goodbye and whatnot.

I want to go to prom, but I don't know if my parents will let me go *sigh*. I was planning on going with my friends.

If not, then I'll try to hang out with my them. But yeah, it seems like such a loss if I don't go! It's $85!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's expensive in my opinion.
