Djent

[Annihilation]

I have been hearing about this genre a lot lately, and frankly, I still do not see what it is exactly. What are the characteristics of djent as a genre? I looked it up on Wikipedia, and its pretty vague. All I know are bands that are apparently djent:

Meshuggah
Animals as Leaders
Born of Osiris
Sikth
Periphery

All I know about it is that it's pretty kick ass music. Born of Osiris and Meshuggah are awesome bands. Some of those bands sort of fit into the "math metal" genre as well. I think whoever started that genre just wanted to distinguish bands into an unnecessarily specific classification.

"Djent" is apparently supposed to be an onomatopoeia.
I think the kinda music associated with the term's pretty dull, TBH.

Then again, I am listening to Morrissey right now, so my opinion means nothing.
