"...when i woke up, i couldn't quite see. my arms and legs were flailing violently and it was difficult to breathe. there were hands restraining me, and voices telling me to breathe.
after what seemed like an eternity, i calmed down and my breathing slowed. i was in the recovery room, hooked up to morphine. the man next to me was moaning.
it took a couple of hours to piece together the events of the past day. the admissions. the iv's. the laxatives. the discovery channel. card games. and now this.
when i was taken back to my room, there was a brochure on my night stand. "life with only one kidney." i took me 24 hours to urinate. i still have not been able to shit."
