Do you like shrimp on the barbie? If so, you are a redneck.
Also, about 1 in 8 people here can be counted as an 'intellectual.' You may want to check the boards out. x D

Well whoever led you to anime started you off decently..
Check out "Spirited Away", "Kiki's Delivery Service", "My Neighbor Totoro" as far as Miyazaki goes, he has others as well, but I can't think of them off the top of my head, I haven't really slept much.
Also even if you haven't seen the series check out "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie"
And definitely look up "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust"
Just to start you off...

I'll add a double vouch for CowBoy Bebop the Movie.
If only it wasn't going to be made into a Movie with Keanau Reeves playing Spike.
Oh, Gudday to the newbie. Give me a good example of Aussie Hiphop and I'll give you a good example of Aussie metal.

I have a feeling Cowboy Bebop will be dead to me when that movie comes out.
I'll also welcome you and recommend Elfen Lied, Paranoia Agent, Serial Experiments Lain, Mushishi and Mononoke (not the princess one, the tv show).

Firstly, we don't cook 'shrimp' on the barbie. Thay're prawns, King Prawns at christmas. Dunno why, that's just what we do.
And thanks to everyone on the anime advice. I haven't yet seen Cowboy Beebop so that's on the to do list. Elfen Lied is mad... in a good way. I think i've seen Vampire Hunter D but i might be mixing that up with something else.
Otogi Zoshi is good in a dramatic kinda way and Tenjo Tenge is great if you want to see school kids smashing on. I haven't seen all that's on offer from those titles but what I have seen was good
As for aussie hip hop, I'd say those three are some of the best. Drapht and Downsyde are out of Perth so i'm biased towards them but Hilltop Hoods are the biggest name in the scene. Also Pegz, Bliss and Esso, Hyjak N Torcha are worth checking out.

Why does everyone I know think this will be horrendous?
Do people have something against Keanu Reeves... I mean I know the jokes about him and being emotionless are funny with the "woah" and shit, but he's not that bad. Plus he's loved the series ever since it came out.
I mean really... "River's Edge" wasn't too bad, "A Scanner Darkly" was great, "My Own Private Idaho" was pretty good, "Street Kings" was alright. "Much Ado About Nothing" was quite entertaining as well. And the first Matrix movie was pretty enjoyable.
I don't know, I think people are a bit too critical on him because of his Ted role, but everyone's got their own opinions... only time will tell.
Though.. I do wonder who else will be cast..

I will agree with Saya about Elfen Lied. It is and will always be my favorite anime.
"The Sandpit" amused me as an answer. "For-ev-er. For-ev-er."

Yeah, Elfen Lied is the shit.
The problem with Keanu Reeves is that he's so monotonous. It's not acting, it's just... recital.

Keanu Reeves did very well in Constantine simply because his character required no emotion. It was the perfect role for a poor actor.
P.S. E Nigma, a good movie can be made even with poor actors, but it won't be a great movie. I think Matrix could have been better if Will Smith acted the role of Neo as they wanted him to, but that's my opinion.

I didn't mean the sandpit as a movie or anything else, in my childhood we had a pile of sand in the backyard. Add the water from the hose and it was endless fun for a child. I grew up in a small country town, there wasn't anything else to do

I was thinking of The Sandlot anyway. Don't capitalize both words, it confuses my feeble mind.

Well look at Reeves in A Scanner Darkly... he plays an emotional character. He isn't monotonous, people just give him those roles because they know he can do it. In most roles where he seems monotonous he's supposed to play detached characters. As with The Matrix and Constantine. He's never really gotten the opportunity after becoming more prominent in the acting industry. So I guess we'll find out exactly where his acting skill lies.

Why was "Ghost in the Shell" in all its incarnations not mentioned?
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 is fucking amazing too, the original (simply titled Bubblegum Crisis is pretty cool but I think 2040 is a little better)

Yes. He turned it down for Wild Wild West. He admits now what a mistake that was.
Nigma, Reeves is not chosen for monotonous characters. Have you ever seen Dracula with him playing as Johnathan Harker? That role called for emotion, and he simply couldn't provide it. His character was utterly lacking in contrast with the book. Neo in the Matrix should also not have been emotionless, but rather just sincere. Instead, we get Noemotions McApathy. The Replacements? Again, emotionless. He was only good in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure because he got to act like himself, which was basically a stoned surfer (so his accent sounds). I haven't seen Much Ado About Nothing in years, but I bet he sucked in that, too.
