Yep, Nightwish can most definitely stay as Nightwish. Remember Tuomas made 'em & he can break 'em.

Like everyone else, it seems, I love Siouxsie...I love Kate Bush as well.
My favorite female vocalist right now, though, is Karin Dreijer Andersson. Not exactly gothic, but she's been the vocalist for Honey is Cool and The Knife...her voice is wonderfully versatile.

Amy Lee has a lovely voice, too, though a few of Evanescence's songs bug me to no end (i.e. "Call Me When You're Sober"...horrible). I love the girls from Afrirampo, too! They really know how to scream...

Well since you like Nightwish, Epica is just like them, but their male vocals are growls and not a clean voice like Nightwish uses.

Amy Lee and Evanescence is great, they just choose the most pop / punk boring whiny songs on the album as singles. I just don't get why.

dont you drag punk through the mud! there is nothing punk about evanescence!!! fundemental punk follows a three chord theory and is alot faster and irratic than that shyte...its MEANT to be offensive...not melodic and popy...
i'm not attacking you, i'm protecting my culture...

back to female lead singers...Otep has a lady in the lead...and she sounds like a man sometimes...i like that.
Annie Lennox has been around for years and years!!!
has anyone mentioned Blondie, yet?

There are hundreds of bands like Epica about. They're all sponging off of the operatic vocals/growly growls set by the likes of Nightwish & Theatre Of Tragedy. The thing that annoys me about them is that they're all too similar & couldn't hold a candle to Nightwish. If you look on ladiesofmetal.com most of the 'gothic bands' are clones of each other. As I've mentioned before the blueprint for this music came from the Paradise Lost song 'Gothic' in which Sarah Marrion's clean vocals were teamed up with Nick Holmes growls. Theatre Of Tragedy adopted this, but Nightwish & Within Temptation were the ones who brought it to the table.

Nightwish, W.T, T.O.T, The Gathering & Lacuna Coil will all state that Paradise Lost song as an inspiration. Heck, even C.O.F will too. My point is, if you are gonna listen to female fronted gothic metal, listen to the sort that was developed between 1992-1997 as they're probably the best. All with the exception of Leaves Eyes because they're bad ass anyways, as they've got one of the original goth metal divas, Liv Kristine in.

Okies my complaint is over.

Oh yes, Tina Root from Switchblade Symphony. Also, Eva O. even though she sounds like a man.
Don't forget about the nice lady from Mira.

Siouxsie Sioux.
Clan Xymox vocalists.
I also quite enjoy the vocals of Jessicka-I'm trying to think of more...

I'm a vocalist for the band i'm in. I kind of want to find a guy to sing with me though. I just think our band would sound better with a guy on vocals along with me.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, buut, Porcelain and the Tramps have a good female vocalist, I particularly like the songs Fuck Like a Star and King of the World.

Also, Android Lust, Rasputina, Razed in Black, Otep, Emilie Autumn,
