Venom is just a dark-sounding British thrash band that only turned into a black metal band in the 2000s, Immortal is an old school black metal band, Sodom is thrash metal and Bathory is ultra old-school black metal. Dimmu Borgir, being symphonic black metal, are not really comparable to Immortal or Bathory, as they have entirely different sounds, and comparing Dimmu Borgir to thrash bands makes no sense. If you want to make Dimmu look bad, which they are, then compare them to superior symphonic black metal bands like Gothërfall.

Sodom's first Lp was black metal, then they turned to thrash metal. Venom gave the name to the fucking genre dude, second lp "black metal" so there. To me there is only black metal, I dont think melodic or symphonic black metal is black metal.

I have Black Metal. It's a thrash record. The name was used for the genre because the anti-Christian and occult sentiments of the lyrics along with the darker thrash sound was an influence on black metal bands.

1st wave black metal:Venom,Celtic Frost,Bathory,Sodom,Hellhammer,etc...etc
2nd wave black metal:Emperor,Mayhem,Gorgoroth,Immortal,Satyricon, Darkthrone,etc..etc
3rd wave black metal:Cradle of Filth,Dimmu Borgir,Theatres Des Vampires, in other words all the symphonic BM

Apart from Bathory, that first wave is all just thrash bands that influenced black metal. Where did anyone get the idea that Sodom are a black metal band?
