Quotations

I looked around and could not find any threads devoted to quotation. So, I thought I'd start one.
I have always had a fascination with great orators and writers. I will try to post at least one a day and I hope everyone will join me. I'm hoping this will be a great chance for me to read quotes from people I would never have thought to look up.
I also encourage personal quotes and things you've said that you want to be remembered for.
Having said all that here is one from me and one from someone else.

"The measure of a persons courage is not whether they feel fear or not, but how they deal with that fear." -Me

"As a rock on the seashore he standeth firm, and the dashing of the waves disturbeth him not. He raiseth his head like a tower on a hill, and the arrows of fortune drop at his feet. In the instant of danger, the courage of his heart sustaineth him; and the steadiness of his mind beareth him out."
Aristotle

This sounds like a good idea.

"I am an evil that exists to oppose all other evils. And on that day, of which all prophets speak but in none truly believe, when all evil is cleansed from the earth, then I too shall go down into darkness, swallowing curses. But until that day, I shall not wash my hands or let them hang useless." - R. Z. The Guns of Avalon

"We're on a bullet heading straight into god; even he'd like to end it too... We've seen the deaths of kids and we've got no future... Write our prayers on a little bomb, kiss it on the face and send it to god."

Quotes from god:

There's no love in fear.

Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion.

Ignorant heterosexuals are right to fear the gay community. They are the future. Our future. The next step in our evolution.

I threw you the obvious to see if there's more behind the eyes of a fallen angel, eyes of a tragedy; oh well, apparently nothing... apparently nothing at all.

I have gone to great lengths to expand my threshhold of pain.

I think psychedelics play a major part in what we do, but having said that, I feel that if somebody's going to experiment with those things they really need to educate themselves about them. People just taking the chemicals and diving in without having any kind of preparation about what they're about to experience tend to have no frame of reference, so they're missing everything flying by and all these new perspectives. It's just a waste. They reach a little bit of spiritual enlightenment, but they end up going, 'Well, now I need that drug to get back there again.' The trick is to use the drugs once to get there, and maybe spend the next ten years trying to get back there without the drug.

when I say, "fuck your god" I don't mean THE god

Choices always were a problem for you. What you need is someone strong to guide you. Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow, what you need is someone strong to use you.. like me.

This sort of behavior is left to the psychotic, dogmatic, fundamentalist believers you see on your TV everyday letting off bombs and killing people in the name of God. Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs allow the mind to stop functioning. A non-functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in nothing.

All said by,
Maynard James Keenan

"Themost unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A death. Whats that,a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you go live in an old age home. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work for forty years until you're young enough to enjoy retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, and you get ready for high school. You go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back, you spend your last nine months floating with luxuries like central heating, spa, room service on tap. Then you finish of as an orgasm! Amen"

Hello again. I don't have one from myself today, mostly, because I don't say much worth listening to. I do have one from one of my favorite movies and one from a fine author.

Enjoy.

And each man stand with his face in the light of his own drawn sword. Ready to do what a hero can. ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning

#11: Doesn't even speak good English.

This last one was from the movie 12 angry men. I can't recall the actors just the juror numbers

Ok, let's see, I'll put some of my favorite quotations that shaped me into what I am today, and some of mine. I know mines are not that good, hehe.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would kindly and forgivingly take him by the had and lead him to a quiet place to kill him"
Mark Twain

"Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, It seems to me most strange that men should fear: Seeing that Death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come."
William Shaespeare from his play Julius Caesar

"From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were - I have not seen
As others saw - I could not bring
My passions from a common spring-"
Edgar Allan Poe, 'Alone'

"What is history, but a fable agreed upon?"
Napoleon

Now mine:

"Be afraid of Death, but don't be scared of her"

"Your breath is my air. Your tears are my water. Your eyes are my light. Your laughter is my music. Your touch is my warmth" with passion. to the love of my life

"The thing that common people call poetry comes easily to me. The eternally more beautiful true poetry Always escapes from my grasp. But, just like a woman, I wouldn't love her If she was easy to get"

"Poetry is not about Truth
It's about Beauty
Beauty is eternally better than Truth
Truth derives from Beauty
There are infinite Beauties to one's eye
That are not Truth
But there's only one Truth
To one eye
And it's only one
Of the infinite Beauties"

"I will never die
My livfe will forever
Echo in eternity" (that's my epitaph)

And, wow, I 'm just talking and talking. I'll just leave it like that, I don't want to bore you with everything I write.
If you like it, thanks for your time; if you didn't, I'm sorry to have wasted it. So, I guess, I'll just be quiet for now
