I have a question. Where did my philosophy thread go?

Another forum I frequent uses this same forum software, and has a section for members that is private. You can only obtain entry by having 500 posts under your belt, or by paying a fee AND being known by the mods as not being a tool. It is actually quite handy if you have subjects you would like to keep troll free. Maybe this is a feature that can be implemented with a Chat as well? I also agree that Chat would be nice.

Individual section for religion and spirituality - wonderful idea. Everywhere I go, I am suddenly besieged by some religious hot button, no matter what the original topic was.

I think I'd like to see the people behind Gnet post on the boards once in a while...just to get to know you better. It definitely makes a site more enjoyable if you can actually talk with the creator(s) on a more personal level.

Could we get a better selection in the vending machines? I'm alittle tired of apples and tunafish.

Oh and I third the above request.

First and foremost, thanks a million for your hard work and extra effort to make this place and interesting and engaging escape for all of us. I am sure you all spend a large portion of your time to set up and maintain it all.
Having said that, I am going to be greedy and ask for more.

A visual arts gallery would be wonderful, especially if it was in its' own section, perhaps a place where we could have threads about different members techniques and discussions of completed works.

I realize that all the poetry is in one list because you were probably drowned in it previously, but it would be really cool if we could set up a place to post it for return comment where it wouldn't be lost in the abyss. Also something similar for short stories would be awesome. maybe a kind of forum within a forum? That way it couldn't take over the literature section?

A religion/ philosophy section would also be awesome, seing as those subjects seem to be scattered through several areas.

Maybe a maths/ science discussion area, not that it really gets much consideration here, I think it would be fun.

Again, thankyou for all your time and effort.

And, hell yes, we would love to hear from you guys more, if you have time between working on this place and rolling on the floor with laughter at some of our goofy rantings.

To keep so many trolls from joining, how about a feature that forces them to get approval from a mod or other members. Or better yet, two. Maybe have that along with a waiting period of a day or so. But that may be a little too much to put on them. I dont know it was an idea.

I love the "New Posts" button. I cant live without it now.

I was reading about Myspace on Wikipedia, and it stated that Myspace doesn't let new users post on the message boards for seven days after registering. Somehow it is supposed to stop spamming. Maybe something like this will help stop all the useless spamming on these boards?

I'm disappointed that no new literature has appeared in this "Bone Chilling Literary Culture" the whole time I've been here. Apparently, submissions have not been accepted since some time ago ... when the new owner(s) took over? It makes one wonder if this has just become a cash cow for advertising revenue, or if the current ownership just can't or won't get into the literarature business.

The trollery has been allowed to proceed withour adequate redress by ownership. There are steps that can and should be taken when hate speech, death threats or child pornography are posted by people wishing harm to these forums. Not only have the admins been silent on occasions when they should have acted, but they've left their moderators overwhelmed and unable to act with any authority to ban people who do illegal things. The process here is broken, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to fix it.

The chat room idea is a good one, and I am all in favor of the delay from sign-up till first post. I waited a week and read heavily before posting my first reply.

I waited until I was over 250 posts before I started a thread. I think that some kind of limit like that would be great. How about this ... as a new member, you can post exactly one new thread - your introduction - until you've posted 200 replies. That would keep trolls from starting new threads, because every time they claimed a new name, they'd have to post 200 replies before they could start a thread (except an introduction).

And finally, I want to say that this IS a good place to gather and talk with like minded people. But as with any clubhouse or social group, it's the people and not the setting that make a place a success or not. I would suggest to all the members, moderators and admins that they keep that in mind.

The problem with big avatars is that everyone puts in these massive pictures that end up becoming the focal point of the post rather than what they are typing. I've been on other sites where the avatars are really big and it makes it very difficult to read.

Hmm. There's nothing unmentioned that I could point out. When I was walking to school one day I had a fantastic idea for this site, it was something major, but I forgot it and now have absolutely no idea what it was.
I confess.

Is it possible to have a structure where subthreads can be started inside already established threads?

For example - I am interested in getting/giving tips and anecdotes regarding a specific type of stress/anxiety (i.e. PMS), and we already have an anxiety/depression tips thread in the whining forum, so I don't think there is a need to start a new thread. So a PMS subthread within the anxiety/depression thread would be perfect for that.

I think this kind of hierarchical posting would be very neat and tidy, and would suit our pedantic minds

I also believe the mods need to be given more power to help quell the troll invasion.

Thanks.

PS Can I have a purple? Purple's a fruit.

It would make sense for the avatars to be as wide as the text above and below them.

Don't bother Bjork.. I think she's a bit retarded. Talking directly to her my confuse her, let Jillian play with his new toy, and when he's bored he's feeding it to Sanctus... if he likes it or not. *wild evil grin*

I would like for there to be an IQ test of sorts for the "fresh fish" (thanks for the metaphor Sanctus!). It might help to control the trolls, spamming, morons, etc. from polluting Gnet.

Just a thought.

I don't know about an IQ test because I don't think that their IQ is entirely relevant.

I do agree that there should be some form of screening implemented though.

Maybe they should be automatically directed to the rules and then have to pass a short test on them before they can post? Just a thought...
