Hair Advice?

So, I've been trying to figure out how to make my hair obedient on my own for a while now.

The situation is this: I have fairly long hair (It's down to the middle of my back), and my worst enemy of course is frizz. Well, that and split ends, but the latter is my fault for forgetting to get trimmed for several months overdue.

See, it works like this. Unless I'm having a particularly bad morning, my hair doesn't really need brushed. It's long and straight, only curling at the tips, all nice and together with a little frizz. Nothing too bad.

But let's say I decide to brush it.

Holy shit, bring out the frizz. My hair seems to "temporarily straighten out" in that I brush it out, and it (especially the ends) frizzes out like mad. Nothing will fix it, not anti-frizz spray, not water, not even tying it up as far as the ends are concerned.

I've been using anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner for a couple months now, still no change really.

If I leave my hair alone, and there are no disturbances (Such as strong wind), or I tie it up for several hours, it'll go back to that nice state.
Edit: Also, I have very fine hair, if it's of any consequence.
I don't know what to do to keep it under control. Just walking makes it fly out on its own, in some places.
An example of my hair is my profile picture, and I'd be fine with giving a better resolution one if it will help with advice, give an example, or such.

Any advice?

I've got hair kind of like yours, very thick, blonde, curly and so on, so forth.

What you can do is get a spray bottle- either with water, or water and conditioner, give your hair some spritzing and that can contain it.

Also, try using a comb rather then a brush. I've heard that can help.

My advice is to backcomb the hell out of it. Frizzes will only compliment your hair then.

I would recommend washing your hair every three days or so. Cool water, avoid really hot water. Only wash the scalp, let the suds work their way through the rest. Condition the shit out of it. GENTLY towel dry, then air dry. Experiment with a comb v. brush, and be careful. Don't just rake a brush/comb though, and don't brush/comb more than necessary. Try braiding it loosely before bed. Get the ends trimmed.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. As someone who used to have a LOT of very fine, wavy hair.. all of the above listed tips made a tremendous difference.

Shampooing hair every day strips the natural oils.

I don't/can't use most shampoos, because of the SLS. Makes me itchy, and my hair seems much happier with the all-natural stuff I use.

I only really wash my hair if it's exceptionally bad or to wash my hawk out.
I wouldn't at all if I didn't have my hawk.

Thanks for the advice so far folks. I've already had the split ends trimmed today, and picked up some new conditioner since the old one obviously wasn't doing much for me.

I heard to use hot water because it opens the hair up more and lets the conditioner work better, is this true or false?

The woman the salon wasn't much help when I asked, she just tried to sell me some overpriced shit.

I hate my hair in this picture, maximum frizziness. It got like that just from walking to the park. I'm definitely over-brushing it though, so I will try to stop doing that, as the posts here helped me realize that brushing it more in hopes of taming it is not helping.

Daily shampooing is a bad idea but I do condition my hair every day, it seemed to help with the frizz back when my hair was longer and it gives me a bit of a fresh start when I style it now.

Victor - don't know about the hot water/conditioner deal, but if you did that, be sure to rinse with cool/cold water, to close the cuticle back up.

I also picked up some sort of Leave-In conditioner something or another from that Garnier Fructis brand, will test and see how it works. Hopefully the comb I got to go with it will be easier on my hair than a brush.

The Leave-In conditioner works great for the little fly aways.

But. It does nothing for my hair in general. It's only useful when I tie it up.

I tried it with both a brush and with a comb. I still can't get my hair to stay together. The comb works vastly better than the brush though. The brush just separates every single damn strand, which makes it a nightmare.

But when I comb it, I still can't get it like it is if I go a day or two without brushing it. Damnit mother nature, why must you be better than me at managing my own hair >:{

I'll post a picture later to show you folks what I'm trying to get my hair to look like.

By your name, i would say you are male and this is more what i do, as a female with the same hair problem:
i put it in high pigtails then make it even frizzier so i have these huge cascades of poof coming out of my head. it looks really cool - you could do something with the frizz like that...

Cut it shoulderlengthish, nothing amazingly perfect.
Ditch the stupid hat, PLEASE.
They don't look good with tshirts.
And if you dress in the stuff it actually goes with, you'll look (possibly more) like a moron.
Dye it or something, then backcomb and crimp it.
The glasses are kind of cool, but you need nice hair to compliment them.
