Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

I recently bought a bunch of stuff from here (mostly to wear to work) - their prices are quite reasonable on a lot of their stuff. (mostly velvets)

I love Queen of Darkness and Darkside. Every time I go down to London to Camden Market those are the first shops I head for.

Just about anywhere, even HT. They have some good sales, and -do- have some pretty cool cartoon-related things.
I got my husband a beautiful Alice in Wonderland throw and a Kif figurine for Christmas, and am not sure where else I would have been able to even think of such gifts. XD

Any store that has a clearance or sale, thrift stores, outlet stores, anything cheap. I only spend a lot of cash on shoes or coats.

I live in London, so I make use of Camden market quite a lot (especially Blackrose, that shop is pretty amazing) but I go to university in Exeter, where there are loads of really fantastic vintage clothing shops. And wherever I am, I always check out antique shops, there's almost always something amazing lurking on a rail somewhere - only today Ifound a long black velvet dress for only £8.

I get my cheap staple items from Primark and thrift stores, and more expensive stuff from online stores. One of my friends owns the local "goth store", so he gives me a discount. I also like to root aroud in antique and charity stores for vintage stuff, and things to use in DIY.

If you don't have a decent Goth shop near you (like many people) have a look at GothCloth
All items have size measurements to make it that wee bit easier to order the size that fits just right! Oh yeah, and it's all in stock and normally sent out same day so no 3 month+ wait like some places.

I, too, buy my white and black striped socks from Hot Topic. Small world. Other than that, there's this lovely punk store called "Angry, Young, and Poor" and I go to antique stores to buy drag clothing. Still waiting on that sewing machine to fall out of the sky. Still waiting.

Presently I'm just cutting up my old clothes and sewing them into new ones. In the past, when I had money and in Toronto, I'd buy from He and She, Borderline, Darkside, and various independent designers - Monster Muffin, Retro-G Couture, Plastik Wrap, and a few others. I did an internship with Plastik Wrap, and I modeled for Retro-G, so some stuff I have are compensation for the work I did. Now I think I'll be a thrift store and ebay junkie; however, I also don't mind Hot Topic's clearance rack, there I can buy and cut up without feeling wallet-guilt. And, if I may say, Tripp NYC's shoes are the comfiest I've ever worn. =^^=

The vast majority of my clothing is from thrift stores. The rest is from online, gifts from friends, t-shirts from conventions, and one or two things from Hot Topic (from the clearance rack of course). =]

back on topic though: where do i shop: well, i have so much clothing from over the years that i really don't need to shop 4 clothes. i wear a lot of vintage dresses and stuff i rip apart and make into something else that i get from estate sales, rummage sales, thrift store etc. if you have a good sense of your personal style, you can find something everywhere.
i find a good amount of goodies at the mall. *shock* yes, i know..
i do find good deals in dillards in the clearance sections in both juniors and womens brand name departments. sometimes i find stuff at penny's or sears too. i know that i have to wear a-line shapes so this limits me to a few styles of clothing. i can't do a lot of the clothes that are popular right now, so i stick to my basic clingy velvet, lace, satin etc tops and corsets.
you can buy some great patterns from walmart or a fabric shop, and make your own gothy clothes. just buy good materials that you like and experiment, that's the best way to find your style.
now there are of course online shops and ebay and amazon and gothic auctions, but some of my fav's are pennalangon for shoes, and morticia for clothes as well as drac in a box. hot topic has a good amount of quality items that can be dressed up express your personal style.
i just bought a great skirt from hot topic: it's long black velvet with bunched tulle on the bottom. very pretty, i think tripp makes it.
hot topic caries a variety of items for most pop culture and musical genres, from goth to rap to charlie the unicorn to south park tee's. they offer exposure to difference sub-cultures to kids in places where they may never get the exposure otherwise. it's out jobs as elders to educate the younger kids just getting into goth what our culture means. bashing them for being interested is weird. really weird.
if we don't embrace the younger kids, they will twist the culture into something unrecognizable and ugly. like icp. lol. but anyway, don't be greedy. share the knowledge.
