Is it something I'm doing that's causing this or is it just something to do with my hair?
Which brand of hairspray do you use? Do you tease or crimp your hair before erecting your 'hawk?

I've been using a brand called tresemme. I tease my hair but haven't ever crimped it, I've been straightening it because my hair tends to curl at the ends.

Try teasing less hair at a time, that will obviously take longer but hopefully will work better too. Possibly use less hairspray too if that doesn't work.

I've been thinking about a 'hawk on and off for like.. a year. I'm realllllly hesitant to get it, because I'm worried that if I don't like it, it'll take forever to grow out.
I'm also worried that it won't "work" with my face shape.

Sometimes, I'm just like "hell, get me the clippers! let's do this!!!"
Others.. meep.
?!?!?!?!?!?!

What kind of 'hawk were you thinking of?
I do hate the growing out part, I still want a deathhawk but I have to grow out part of it again as too much was cut off the right hand side, I've got at least eight months until I can put it up properly.

Gah, I feel the same way. The only thing that's been keeping me from doing it sooner is all the compliments I get on my long hair. But I've definitely decided I'm going to get it next month, after all my exams have ended. From the pictures I've seen of you, you would suit one. Deathhawks suit most face shapes, because you can make it as wide as you want. Just bite the bullet, 'hawks look awesome! =]

Exactly! Up until recently, my hair was thigh length, now it's hip length.. that big of a "chop" makes me kinda nervous.

However.. I had it down last night, and realized how much it's grown since I cut it in August.. EASILY eight inches. So if push comes to shove, I could grow out a hawk in less than a year.

Why would you have hair that long? In addition to be so damn hot in the summer, it must be a bitch to manage.

I'm going to get my hawk cut shorter. Unless anyone has a way of stopping it looking like a mullet when it's not up that doesn't require much work...

Having it thinned out might help, but that might make the hawk look worse when it is up.

Hm... a Tri-hawk would be cool. I just don't know if my hair is long enough.

Joico Spiker, best gel ever. Looks like glue, vegan friendly (so far as I know, no animal testing no animal ingredients) and it takes me ten minutes to do this:
