Obama extends health care rights to gay partners

http://www.9wsyr.com/news/local/stor...spx?p=Comments

Dude is kicking ass and taking names. Seems like we're moving towards treating homosexuals like human beings.

This is a good thing.

I saw that and thought "Hallelujah!" I especially like the small but extremely dignifying step of allowing gay partners to have the same hospital visitation rights that heterosexual spouses have.

I need to come up with a counterpart to the "Obamanation" signs. After this, I feel "Obaminator" is an appropriate title.

What? They didn't have these rights before? Sometimes I seriously wonder what the hell is going on in the United Snakes... It's time to leave the medieval eras, you know.

It was in the news last year I think it was where in Florida a woman wasn't allowed to be there with her partner as she died, it was really heartbreaking. She sued the hospital and while the judge agreed they were discriminating against her the hospital doesn't have to allow anyone in to visit.

This is awesome, maybe Obama can make it up to his supporters who have been impatient with him.

Legalize gay marriage on a federal level and be done with it. It shouldn't be hard. I'd vote for Obama for another 4 years if he can deliver at least that. He's already kicking ass and taking names as it is.

Duh. I know it IS hard. I'm saying it shouldn't be. Common sense says it shouldn't.

It's a bit of a cop-out. A lot of people who support him support gay marriage. He's the Commander in Chief and all he managed to deliver is a Hospital policy suggestion? To paraphrase the Vice President, BFD.

Baby steps, bud; he had to totally eviscerate Obamacare before he could even pass it with a sliver of a majority. Obama is not going to be able to just pass gay marriage legislation tomorrow unopposed.

You do remember Bush, right?

We just spent 8 years under a right-wing government that thought DOMA was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Given that context, this is an incredibly ballsy move.

So the ghost of Bush excuses ineffective leadership?

The "ghost of Bush" doesn't excuse ineffective leadership. The Republican voting bloc, a long history of anti-gay legislation, current laws which stand counter to this law, and continued pressure from groups like the Teabaggers excuses a compromise move.

Seriously, where the hell did you pull that strawman from?

Gothic.net, try to restrain your desire for what you want done to the realm of what realistically CAN be done. And then constrain that by what can be done and still retain most of the Democratic House and Senate seats that are up for re-election this fall. Because if he pushes through something like gay marriage and ticks off enough of the citizenry, the November voter backlash could render his administration legislatively impotent for the last 2 years of this term.

But you already knew that. And picking on the expression "Baby Steps" in such a cavalier way was disingenuous. JCC wasn't wrong to state the case that way.

Sure it's not a huge change, but it is a move in the right direction, which can be categorised as a win these days.

Unless you live in Virginia, where the governor issued an edict removing all gay rights.

Is that the same Virginia governor who instituted Confederate History Month to celebrate the many accomplishments of the Confederate nation and army (while intentionally ignoring all those pesky details about slavery?)

What the hell is up with Virginia? What the hell is wrong with Republican Governor Bob McDonnell?

Sadly he pales in comparison to our state Attorney General. I'm really not sure how anyone could have fallen for Mcdonnell's ad campaign, it was pathetic and so full of desperation.

*sigh* and our last governor was such a good one.

Whats real funny is he then later tried to say slavery 'wasnt a big part' of the civil war and that it was some sort of small footnote.

This was later repeated by the governor of mississippi who then set his own confederate history month to aid in the defence of the virginia governor.

http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_14869501

He took it a step farther saying all the 'fuss' about slavery 'doesnt amount to diddly' in his eyes, and said he supported the confederates.

Make you wonder how supporting a group which tried to secede from America and took up arms against a sitting American President and killed members of the American Army makes you a patriot. Doesn't that make you a terrorist?
