Upon a paper attached to the Narrative which follows, Doctor Hesselius has written a rather elaborate note, which he accompanies with a reference to his Essay on the strange subject which the MS illuminates.
This mysterious subject he treats, in that Essay, with his usual learning and acumen, and with remarkable directness and condensation. It will form but one volume of the series of that extraordinary man's collected papers.
As I publish the case, in these volumes, simply to interest the 'laity', I shall forestall the intelligent lady, who relates it, in nothing; and, after due consideration, I have determined, therefore, to abstain from presenting any precis* of the learned Doctor's reasoning, or extract from his statement on a subject which he describes as 'involving, not improbably, some of the [profoundest arcana of our dual existence, and its intermediates'.*
I was anxious, on discovering this paper, to re-open the correspondence commenced by Doctor Hesselius, so many years before, with a person so clever and careful as his informant seems to have been. Much to my regret, however, I found that she had died in the interval.
She, probably, could have added little to the Narrative which she communicates in the following pages, with, so far as I can pronounce, such a conscientious particularity.

I'm having some trouble finding something, and I don't want to open a new thread for it when this one is perfect for my request as it is relevant to Christianity.
It's a little research I'm doing for my own indulgence.
Well, we all know that there are no New Testament manuscripts that date from the time when Jesus was alive. But some do approach that time quite closely.
I was wondering if someone could help me find the oldest New Testament manuscript that talked about a miracle by Jesus. (Which verse would it be and in what year is it speculated to have been written?)

Get over yourselves. I can say what i like. Surely you can't really be offended, worse things will happen in life than having your beliefs questioned. You need to toughen up.
oh...and what Drake said.

He's not the asshole in this case. It's just a heavy conflict of opinions.

Hey, I'm too old to 'try' or care what people think. I'm quite flattered to think you think I might be rebelling, but I don't think I have rebelled for at least 20 years.
I don't think I have been an asshole, re-read what i have said, I am being nice, I am telling you worse things in life will happen in life. See...look what i am doing, justifying what i have said, doesn't it seem painful? You can't please ALL the people all the time, what a tedious existence that would be.
Cool? I've NEVER been cool in my life.

Okay. Let me clear something up...I am neither fully religious or not religious at all. I sort of drift. What I really want to say though, is that criticizing another's beliefs does not get anyone anywhere. Actually, you can criticize people who pray to the mighty teapot, but that's another story. They're just idiots. The thing is though, look how many religious wars there have been, all because some morons started saying "my God is better and bigger and smarter than your God" and the others answered "Oh yeah? Well my God gave me big guns to kill you. POW!" So yes. No big religious conflicts.
I'm going to say something in defense of religion though...a friend of mine was increasingly depressed, and was contemplationg suicide. Her sister dragged him to church, he spoke to the minister, he prayed for two hours straight and he is now "in remission". He won't say exactly what stopped him from killing himself, but he does say that had he not gone to church, he would be dead by now. And I am 99.5% positive that I would have gone to his funeral by now. So don't underestimate the power that religion can have over someone and the help that it can provide.
If you don't share the same beliefs as me, that's absolutely fine, and I'm not going to try to convert you. I can respect you and your beliefs, but the least I would ask is for you to respect my beliefs, or at the very least, explain why you don't agree with me.

Yeah, criticizing others beliefs isn't nice, but it's not going to be stopped by our complaining, and technically, if you don't want to be made fun of then you shouldn't make fun of anyone else; even if they are worshipping a teapot. Tolerance is a key.

I don't think I will comment anymore on religious debates, it just infuriates me. I am not sure why. I just think...come on guys...you're intelligent...why do you believe in fairy's.
I will just quietly seethe on the sidelines.

I'm only intolerant of Christians because, all of my life, they've been so intolerant to me. The way I think, what I believe, and even the way I dress have been constantly criticized by people who are supposed to love EVERYONE and not pass JUDGMENT on others. That's where I created the term "weekend Christians". I may have never become Atheist, Satanist, and eventually Agnostic if it weren't for Christians being so damn hypocritical, obnoxious, and forcing to me.

I was just thinking Christianity is like Buddhism if it were taken over by the CEOs of Exxon Mobil and Fox TV: a money machine and a way to point the finger away from oneself.
Yeah, I'm in a pissy mood.

Is there any chance of starting enough new topics in this section that orion's screed just drops off the page? As a newbie, I am reluctant to start topics, but it would be nice not to see the OP's repugnant, offensive remarks at the top of the recent posts list every time I log in.
And, yes, he is either a troll deliberately trying to offend, or he is incredibly stupid to think his approach might possible convert anyone.

We don't start topics in the Commentary section. The admins start topics here for fiction and writing.

In the bleak atmosphere he arises from his coffin of a tomb. Isolated in the far away castle was he; the lid opened eeriely as dust and steam poured out like bats retreaving themselves from a cave. This was his cave. He awakes, arising with only the dimness of the moon guiding him through the corridors-knowing that the interior and its surrounding world is abandoned.
