No, it's not. Even black people shouldn't say the n-word. This whole idea of 'taking back words' or changing the meaning is moronic.

īKuroshitsuji` (Black Butler) I highly recommend it!
Donīt watch the Black Butler 2nd season though, itīs not worth of it. The 1st season is great and it had a perfect ending. Characters are well drawn.

Try īDeath Note` as well. Art is not bad.

īVampire Knight` is funny, at least for me, so I recommend it. Because is fun and because the characters are not as ugly as in many other anime.

Still, even though the art in all these anime shows is good, the story is lame.
Some exceptions to this īrule`, if any.

īJunjou Romantica` - somehow ugly art but nice plot. Itīs an yaoi (male+male). I canīt watch anime with ugly art but this one has its charm. Itīs lovely and funny. I still canīt stop laughing at some scenes.

Most of the one's I know have already been said so this makes my list shorter.

The Qwaser of Stigmata (the Manga is way better then the Anime)
The .hack series
Air Gear
Ghost Stories (a.k.a. Gakko no Kaidan)
Trigun
Samurai Champloo
Trinity Blood and Blood+ have both already been mentioned but I highly recommend them.

And while Death Note is good, it's become way overrated these days...

Did they manage to make "gets alchemy superpowers from being breastfed" any less ridiculous?
I do agree that Samurai Champloo and Trigun are amazing.

Oh, Trinity Blood was a massive failure of an anime. Gorgeous animation, but the plot...And I tried my best to like it!

@Hydrodyssodia - No it's still the same, but I find the manga to be way better than the anime.

@Saya - It's still one of my favorites.

Serial Experiments Lain while listening to Pink Floyd and Electric Wizard FTW. Trippiest 13 episode ever made. The series transcends anime and become some kind of animated art house flick you could swear was directed by Stanley Kubrick. Seriously, if Kubrick ever did direct an anime, it would be something like Lain.

It deals with themes of Alienation and Isolation, as well as finding yourself.

Also could someone explain to me the appeal of The .hack series? From what I've seen of it, it's people playing an mmorpg, and that's it. Is there some kind of real world cross over, where the people playing the game are hideous outcasts and rejects of society using a fantasy land to escape the shitty reality of their useless existence?

Or am I hoping for too much?

I'll add a few to this list that seem to be lacking in recommendations on this list.

Black Lagoon. It's very mature but realistic. English dub is alright but I still prefer the sub. Definitely recommend it to anyone who isn't into girly animes.

Air Gear - The manga is better than the Anime, but still viewable. Rollerblades make you fly and become a supposed "King". Pretty cool concept.

Baccano - Tarantino styled Anime. Virtually nothing is in chronological order for the first few episodes but still one of the best that I've seen. Sub is waaaaaaaaaaay better than the dub. Issac and Miria cannot be replaced by their English speaking counterparts.

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) - Old as hell but still one of the funniest I've had the pleasure to see. Animation sucks but it almost makes up for it with the facial expressions.

Must be done in English Dub.

I really can't recommend Revolutionary Girl Utena enough. On the one hand, it can be enjoyed as a magical girl anime only with swords. On the other hand, it's chock full of layers of symbolism and complex themes just begging to be dissected and analyzed. The art style is absolutely gorgeous, too, so that a major bonus.

If you're into ghost stories, Le Portrait de Petite Cossette is a good anime to watch. It's beautiful, haunting, and like all good ghost stories the ending is rather bittersweet.

Ponyo was super cute. I generally enjoy Studio Ghibli films, and I wasn't disappointed with this one.

I watched the sub, but people have told me it's almost better to watch the dub, because of the international cast and since pretty much all the dialogues are actually supposed to be in English, not Japanese. Plus, the English bits in the original, ugh. The Spanish dialogues were actualy done way, way better.

XxxHolic
Trigun
Elfen Lied
Darker Than Black
Ergo Proxy
Black Cat
Fist of the North Star

Just to name a few I have enjoyed. I especially like all of the layers of symbolism to be dissected from Ergo Proxy. It truly put religion and the nature of good and evil on the table.

Yeah, I am only really interested in animes with a supernatural setting myself. Rozen Maiden is another good one, if you can stand talking/fighting dolls.

We(Hubz & I) watch the currengt Naruto Shippuden eps and Bleach. I much prefer subbed anime. I've never watched 'adult swim' or the English dubbed versions. We were flipping through someone's channels one time and ran across an English episode of Naruto, much ROFLing ensued as chan/san were used and names were mispronounced.

I did like HOTD despite its blatant marketing to the otaku crowd. Every time tits jiggled on that thing I laughed my ass off. You could probably turn that show into a drinking game. Each time a female's tits jiggle take a shot of your favourite liquor!
