I don't like society as a whole, but I like people in one-on-one situations.

Doctor thinks I might be lactose intolerant so he has put me on a exclusion diet for the next 14 days. This sucks, soya milk tastes like shit.

Try rice milk or almond milk, the stuff in the refrigerated section, not the shelf stable stuff (it is not nearly as good).

I'll have a look for some when I get to the bigger supermarket. I had to settle for what I could get locally today. That said, my stomach isn't as bloated already, which is a good thing.

That is good, making the switch from regular milk to almond milk made a world of difference for me and I actually like it better. I'm rather lucky in the fact that the grocery store on the way home from work happens to have a great selection and is open 24/7 (which is really nice as it is pretty much the only thing open at that time of night).

The two supermarkets that I know are open 24 hours here are both on the other side of town from me and I have no way to get there unless someone takes me as I can't drive and the buses don't run after 11pm plus there's no direct bus route to one of them anyway . It sucks doubly because I also have an intolerance to gluten ( I was diagnosed with that about ten years ago, it's not a new thing) so I'm already limited as to what I can eat as it is.

I tried 3 damn times to log into Gnet from my EVO but this place is just not smartphone friendly. Everywhere else I can log in and navigate no problem.
I had to log in from my home PC.
Yes, I tried expanding the screen with zoom and have no problem with the keyboard.

HP, go download the Dolphin HD browser from the Android Market. Then make sure you go to www.gothic.net/boards. I posted this from my Droid Incredible to test it.

BTW, your signature quote should be attributed to Leslie NIELSEN.

ah that sucks. Hugs.

Do they have lactose free milk over there? We have a couple of brands here. I hate soya milk and will only drink it in a latte or something, where the taste is disguised.

There are enzymes in the health food stores here, you can take - not sure how well they work.

I'm lactose and gluten intolerant as well. totally sucks. We should start the "take you crunchy yummy white bread and milkshakes outta my face" group - or something like that...

Almond milk is delicious! Chocolate almond milk is like crack, yo although don't get the unsweetened kind. I only use soy milk for making mayonnaise, onion rings or baking, almond milk is the kind I drink.

I'll give rice and almond milk a try when I get to the proper supermarket. After two days on this diet, I have to admit, I do feel better. I'm not nearly as bloated and itchy and haven't had an upset stomach either. I am really gutted though, I already feel like a pain when I have to refuse food because of the gluten thing and with this on top, I feel like a really rude ungrateful shit.

Rice milk can be good (depends on the brand, we have one here that is nasty) and I especially like it for coffee, but its also more thin and watery and not a good substitute when you need your milk to have some fat (mayo, batter, etc).

MissC, if anyone gives you shit just explain "I'm intolerant. I'll eat it, but I'll be on your toilet all night and will probably leave it clogged."

Myself I've gotten in the habit of bringing my own food to friend's houses and such, to the point where even if they have vegan options I feel its rude to eat their food XD But honestly if its people you don't know well, what do you care? If they're friends, they'll work their way around it for you.

Haha. Yeah, I might be saying this a lot. I often take my own food if I'm out for the day as being stuck in public toilets is a truly awful experience.

MissC, I'm sorry you have to cut more stuff out of your diet. That sucks. I have no advice but I hope you keep feeling better.

HP, I can log in on my Moment. We have Sprint, don't know if that counts for anything. I can use the default browser to access most websites. The only thing that is slightly irritating is that I can't get Angry Birds on it.

Two days ago I met a girl who was in a foster home that made her star in a series of child porn from the ages 8-10. Her story was really depressing, and I'm really sick of meeting people like this and hearing these stories. Is it really all this common? Do I just have a habit of attracting damaged people?

Whatever, I'm just sick of it. I want to help. I want to prevent the kind of shit that happened to me and all these other people from happening again, and I want to help the people that have already had this happen.

How? Please, G.net, can you help me find programs and such that I can get involved in to help?

Just tell them that ed scissorhands is having a party in your stomach if you eat gluten/lactose.

Glad to hear that you've had some relief from the bloating and itchiness.

Oh man vanilla and chocolate almond milk....yummy!

Mr Doobie We are all screwed up... all damaged.. carrying around baggage. Some of us refused to admit it, while others who would seem to have a ton of baggage just go about their normal everyday lives and try and get over it.

I left most of my baggage behind me. I just lug around a carry on now and try and let things go.

Oh and my advice is usually blah. Just remember you can't save the world, you can only save yourself and maybe along the way, you'll help others, but you can't help anyone unless you help yourself first..

Most of the women I've known(relatives, friends, girlfriends) have had some type of sexual assault in their past. I can't dwell on it. If I do it fills me with rage and makes me want to murder people. All you can do is be a sympathetic ear and a shoulder if they need it. Just be as supportive as you can, hun. People used to think I was joking when I would say that dating women hurts a lot worse than dating men.

What kind of work do you want to do? Nationally there's RAINN, in Philadelphia (thats where you are, right?) there's WOAR, they have a crisis line but it also looks like they do education and outreach, and there's an anti-trafficking organization but they don't have a website, other than there's a religious organization on the board (but it looks like a lot of different organizations are involved): Philadelphia Anti-Trafficking Coalition.

I know what you mean about getting sick of hearing about it, and I'd be wary about doing crisis line work because of that. I do education and outreach at my local sexual assault crisis center, and I do get disclosures, but mostly I feel really good about the work. If disclosures was all I did I'd probably be super burnt out by now, so if you want to do it I'd really suggest mixing it with other kinds of activism that don't get you down so much.

It is a lot more common than most people think, last time I checked the statistics it was estimated that one in four girls and one in six guys in the US are inappropriately touched by the time they turn eighteen.

Sexual violence prevention can take a lot out of you but it really is very meaningful and can make a lot of difference. I did my volunteering through a local abuse shelter so that is one place where you can look, they may not have any opportunities for you to help but they should be able to point you in the right direction. You could also try contacting your local government to see what there is in your area, even the stuff that isn't run by local government generally does have a relationship with them, mostly for the purpose of getting out information (as well as getting grant money).

Son of a bitch! I made a post in the Politics section, and next thing you know I've got a banner ad at the top of Gnet for Ron Paul, the Tea Party Libertarian Senator who is running for President. Whaaaaaaaaat?!?!?
