Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Other than Goth...
What music do you listen to? I mean all I ever hear people rhyme off are a list of Gothic Bands... Personally I have a wide array of music tastes. Why don't we list off some of our favorite NON-Gothic groups?
Some things I listen to on a regular basis,
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I love their quirky music, it's catchy.
Enigma - Gotta love the soothing music, just zone out to it.
Yanni - Classics, period.
Rammstein - I love their songs. They have a great beat and awesome music.
The Killers - I loved them before they got huge. Unique sound, great songs.
Nicklback - Great messages in their songs, I love their music.
Cake - Unique once again, fabulous covers of the oldies.
The Cranberries - I'm a sucker for an accent, I love this group too.

Hmm, I like the following artists/bands:
-Enya
-Aqua
-The Dresden Dolls
-Yanni
-Kitaro
-Amethystium
-Tchaikovsky
-Mozart
-Beethoven
-Sarah Brightman
-Killswitch Engage
-Rob Zombie (Haha, yes, I like good ol' Rob).
-Creature Feature
-Adastreia
-Aesma Daeva
-Sonata Arctica
-Kamelot
-Epica
-Visions of Atlantis
-Haggard
-Sirenia
-E Nomine
-Tristania
-Lunatica
-Rasputina
-In Flames (Very little, however).
There's a bunch more I like to jam to, but the list would go on and on if I sat here and typed them all up. But, there's a few I listen to whenever I'm in the mood.

There's been this thread before, I'm quite sure.
For myself: Lots. Evanescence. Nightwish. Within Temptation. Sirenia. Epica. Notice a trend? Oh yeah, I love symphonic/"gothic" metal. There's more too, but I don't feel like listing it.

And shame on me, I forgot to mention Nightwish and Within Temptation, too.
Wow, I have a very slippery mind.

A better (i.e. smaller) list is what I don't listen to, but for the sake of keeping things interesting, I'll try to cover the bases in terms of parent genres:
~Top 40 hits (pick your decade in history)
~Country
~World Music (Mostly Russian, Indian, and Middle Eastern - including Rai)
~Classical
~Industrial
~Metal
~Punk
~Rap
~Hip-hop
~Reggae
~Alternative
~Eclectic
~Experimental/Dark Ambient/Noise
~Jazz
~Blues
~Electronic
~Folk
~New Age
...and that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

- Duran Duran
- The B-52's
- The Psychedelic Furs
- Aerosmith
- The Bangles
- Toto
- Bananarama
- Ace of Base

Plenty of none gothic bands, however all my favorite bands are morbid or somehow in the Gothic direction (Victoria, gothic horror)
Theatres des vampires
garbage
orgy
Soundtracks from movies that I love
A few songs by Katy Rose
Kidney Thieves.
Does liking none goth bands REALLY deserve a whole other thread.

Yes, it does. Cause personally I'm sick of seeing the "Goth Top 40" list in every frigging thread. It's nice to see people have individual tastes,

This thread has actually been done many times before (albeit not as many times as the 'top goth bands' threads), but nevermind... I feel like listing the bands that I like:
- Placebo
- Hole
- The Distillers
- Type O Negative
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Simple Minds
- Fleetwood Mac
- Split Enz
- Oingo Boingo
- Adam and the Ants
- Madonna
- Eurythmics
- Blondie
- Colour of Fire
- The Dandy Warhols
- Paralisis Permanente
- Patti Smith
- Amebix
- Aus Rotten
- Anti-flag
- Almost anything from the Gatecrasher and Ministry of Sound compilations, I especially love DJ Tiesto
- Silverchair
- AFI
- At the Drive-In
- A Perfect Circle
- Tool
- David Bowie
Plus a whole lot more.

No I don't mean it like that.
I mean, is it really THAT bad to like something other than goth that it can't go with all the other favorite band threads. It's like anything none goth is cast out or something...

My utter favourites are:
A Perfect Circle & Tool (Great nod of approval to Cicero)
Die Toten Hosen
Dead Kennedys
Salmonella Dub (New Zealand electronica... ludicrously relaxing)
Gorillaz
Opeth
Disillusion
Incubus
Rage Against the Machine
Pink Floyd
Blonde Redhead
Rammstein
The Smashing Pumpkins
The Traveling Wilburys
Quite possibly Puscifer might be added to this list, once I hear more than just two songs from Maynard's new band. Everything else I listen to is classics such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley and Led Zeppelin.

I like the Gorillaz as well, Opeth, and Rage Against the Machine. I always listen to one of their tunes at least once a day. Yaay, go me.

Teargarden
Legendary Pink Dots
Skinny Puppy
Coil
Throbbing Gristle
Neubauten
VNV Nation
Overlords
a few Project Pitchfork and Velvet Acid Christ songs (but I've gotten WAY away from that EBM sound, so it's just that residual "I was into them years ago" type-feeling. Same goes for: Wumpscut, Snog,
Leaether Strip, Frontline Assembly, X-marks the Pedwalk, etc.)
Delerium, Lycia, Neptune Towers
Peccatum
Mortiis
Dargaard
Stratovarius, Falkenbach, Haggard, Limbonic Art, Emperor, Bloodthorn, Phantom, Wolf, Stormwitch, Medieval Steel, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Masque, Summoning, Arcturus, Thorns, Dark Throne...
This could go on forever. Bottomline is: I like dark music -- All metal (except I'm not real big on any death metal), industrial, and goth.
Huge Skinny Puppy fan.

I just listen to trance and other forms of dance music. Anything from hardcore terrorcore to whispy Paris runway trance.
I relate more to the goth aesthetic and way of thinking.

Yayz! I was hoping someone else would like Gorillaz! If you like Gorillaz, you should definately listen to Salmonella Dub. It's the kiwi version of them really and they're very relaxing. If you just want a taster, their best songs to try (for me) are Problems, Push on Thru and Nu Steppa.
Opeth just kicks arse and I listen to them a lot even if it's just for musical appreciation.
Rage against the Machine are coming to New Zealand this January!!!!!!
Definately a concert for me to look forward to.
