Woah, hey, I didn't see like most of this page! My condolences, Ben. Take care... I also know how families can be torn apart by genetic maladies... hell, my mom is the only one in her immediate family to not chinsmoke or be an alchoholic... and the only one to treat her depression. Hang in there.

I just can't use those Wacom tablets. I'm more comfortable using a mouse. But then, I guess it just takes time to get used to them.

OK, after 25 years of being blonde I finally got up the balls to go darker. AND BOY DID I!!!
My hair is now.....BURGUNDY! (aka chocolate covered cherry)
I LOVE IT! Wish I could find the charger cord for my digital camera to show it off!
I looks wonderful with my ivory skin tone. And to think it would make me look washed out! pfft!
Of course I got the matching lipstick and nail polish, too!
MUST FIND CAMERA CORD! *begins search*

ben -
i just came across your post and what you and your family is going through is most definitely not a decent way to start the new year.
take a look at this, if you haven't seen it already -
http://www.psychlaws.org/LegalResour...sinstatute.htm
it should, at the very least, acquaint you with the mental health laws and parameters in the state where your parents live - and maybe provide some insight as to how you and your family would like to proceed.
good luck.

To Ties, Julia and E_E, Thank you.
E_E - yes, I had already found that and forwarded it on to my family. We've decided that dad, my brother and my sister will be the ones signing the paperwork making sure she gets the counseling and therapy she needs (this will also keep her from having any jail time) and I will be the one who doesn't have anything to do with that process. That way, when she comes out of this, if she feels angry and/or betrayed she'll have one family member she can look to as not having been a part of that. It is a little thing, but maybe it will be a big help in the long run.
I'm doing better today. If I missed saying it to anyone who responded with kind words to my virtual primal scream from yestrerday, then let me say thank you here. I appreciate all the sensitive, caring and articulate support more than you can know.
BTW, Ties ... did you look up Primal Scream Therapy yet? Here is the definition
The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. 2000.
primal therapy
NOUN: Psychology A method of therapy thought to treat emotional problems by encouraging patients to relive traumatic experiences and to express feelings through screaming and other verbal or physical acts of aggression. Also called primal scream therapy.
Also, here's a link to a simple 10 step primer:
The Art of Primal Scream Therapy - A 10-step Method
I'll keep everyone posted. The next step, a preliminary assessment of my mom's mental state, happens Thursday. We'll see.
And finally, since there are so many folks here that have some experience with similar circumstances, I'm looking for some advice. Is there a discussion forum or online support group that I can refer my sister to, someplace where she can talk to people who've gone through similar experiences? I'd refer her here, but GNet is really not her speed. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

Yes, and there's a great example at the end of John Lennon's "Cold Turkey." ... Man, I love that song.

Thanks. Let me put it this way ... I'm finding things amusing again. Mind you, there's a lot of dark humor in there, but it's humor none the less. The best medicine, right?
I'd definitely say better ... but I'm with you ... I don't know what it's better than. ;-)

Since I haven't seen any feedback on this, and thought it might have gotten lost in the bigger post, I thought I'd repost it here. I need any suggetions you can think of.

The only one I know of is www.teenhelp.org. I don't know if your sister is a teen though. My little sister used it for some things she was going through recently and she's a little better for it.
I just looked at it and it seems like pretty PG stuff, but it might help all the same.
If I hear of any others I'll post them or send you a PM.

This is an excellent organization and resource page:
Adult Children of Mentally Ill Parents
NAMI is anotherr wonderful mental health organization with some really good resource links on their page:
NAMI
Once a diagnosis has been made of your Mom, the focus can be narrowed a bit to find support groups specific to what she is going through.
It can be helpful for all of you to have support during this crisis from people who can relate with this very private and painful experience.
When you get a clearer diagnosis, pm me and I will see if I can dig up something a bit more tailor made to your situation.
However the above are great places to begin.
Adult Children of Mentally Ill Parents is a very caring and supportive organization run by Men and Women that have gone or are going through situation similiar to yours.
I'd suggest starting there first.
Hang in there man, it'll get better soon.
*Hugs*

You know...you type in the most innocent of things on the google image search and you get some of the most surprising results.
I googled avatar or some form of avatar(ie creepy, scary, ugly, etc) and the first pic that popped up was two guys in the tub together doing what couples do in a bathtub together.
Homosexuality doesnt bother me but it was like when I was a kid and we kept water in gallon milk jugs. Sometimes I'd get up in the middle of the night, grab the jug from the fridge, take a huge chug and it'd be milk. Now, it's not that I dislike milk( I love it) but when you're expectin water and get milk, it a bit nasty.
Same thing here...Last thing I expected to see when I turned on the puter was guy on guy action. I think I need to swab my eyes out now.
*wanders off*

What the--? You want a new avatar and you don't ask a friend first?! I can do creepy scary and ugly, and if you don't want a pic of me I have other stuff! I got zombies, I have both foreign and American horror...ask eyes I allowed her to see my collection of shit she could tell you I have a selection!
You know it started when we were over at Mary's house and you had a second cup of coffee...you never have a second cup at home! Is it my thighs? Cause I am starving myself for you I don't know what YOU WANT!
Or you could IM/PM me with what you are looking for in an avy... ^_^

sometimes, those we care about, from no matter the distance, go away and we feel sad.
and sometimes, those we care about, no matter from what the distance, return to share words and thoughts once again - and we feel happy.
so, i feel happy right now.
thanx.
