Hi, I'm Rose, and this is my introduction.

First off, my name. It's cliché, I know. I get it from new people all the time. "You wear lots of black clothing and eyeliner, and your name is Rose?" Yes, yes it is. My parents may as well gave named me Raven or Lilith or something. Moving on.

I'm a sucker for organization and numbered lists, so I figured I would fill out the introductory survey in the sticky. Then I saw that there are quite a few questions I'd have to put some decent thought into. It's three in the morning, so fuck that. I'll just give a rundown.

I'm not really the "Goth" I was in high school. I still wear black and my sense of humor is as dark as it ever was, but I'm not all suicidal poetry and vampire fantasy anymore. I've leaned more toward the geeky side since then. I watch Doctor Who, I tinker with computers, and I spend more time on WoW and Tumblr than I should. My mom introduced me to Stephen King when I was much too young to fall into his target demographic, and he's been one of my favorite authors ever since. Firestarter was the first full-length novel I ever finished. I also love Poe, George R.R. Martin, anything Sherlock Holmes, a bit of Anne Rice, and lots of the classics (some Shakespeare, Dickens, etc.).

As far as music goes, I'd probably be considered a pariah here. I like mainstream rock that's played on the radio, like Rise Against and Theory of a Deadman. I also listen to classical when I'm in the mood - though I'm far from knowledgeable about the genre - and folky stuff like Celtic Woman. I have a soft spot in my heart for strong female voices
Amy Lee, Adele, Sarah Brightman, Christina Scabbia, you get the point.

Aside from the aforementioned hobbies, I write and I sing. I like to think I do both at least semi-decently. I'll sing anything that's in my range (I'm a mezzo-soprano, according to my high school chorus teacher), though I can't guarantee it'll be good. My favorite writing area is horror, generally short stories.

I'm pagan, which I'm sure is no rarity around here, but I wouldn't consider myself Wiccan.
I put more emphasis on the harmony of the four elements and do not recognize any "God" or "goddess" entity.

As a final note, I suppose I should add that I can be a bit bitchy at times. It isn't something I am proud of, something I wear as a badge of honor, but true nonetheless. I'm also a little pretentious, as you may be able to tell from my username (which is in a language I do not speak). So if you can tolerate a stubborn, sometimes-mean smartass with a strong Grammar Basically streak, we should get along just fine

*Grammar Nazi, not Basically. Gotta love auto-correct. I would also go back and correct any spelling/formatting problems, but my edit button seems to have disappeared.

hello

Hi, I love both your screen name, and your RL name. I also enjoy playing WoW, singing, and Stephen King. I am also a Pagan, but hadn't really been sure about posting it in my intro. Maybe I should go back and fix that, since you had the courage to do so.

What other sorts of geeky pursuits do you like? I liked Doctor Who as well, but once David Tennant wasn't the Dr., I couldn't watch it anymore. Anyways, greetings fellow newbie, nice to know I am not the only new person finding this website.

I signed up because I was googling "vampire novels that aren't like Twilight" and one of the results was a thread here. Looking around, I saw that there's a big emphasis on books and TV and media in general, and I liked it.

It's very cool that the first person to respond is someone I see to have a good bit in common with. I love your username too! I wasn't afraid to post that I'm pagan only because of where I live. If you can admit it to a room full of rednecks, you can admit it anywhere. I'm not one of those eccentric Professor Trelawney types, though; thinking every bump in the night is a "spirit" and believing rocks have souls. I'm pretty rational compared to the stereotypical "Wiccans" TV likes to portray (and society likes to believe in).

As far as geeky pursuits, it's mostly playing video games (RPG, action/platformer, and puzzle, mainly) and fangirling over various TV shows and movies. Don't worry, though; I do most of my obsessing on Tumblr to get it out of my system. DW, Sherlock, Supernatural, and Harry Potter are the big ones, but I also like Fringe, Warehouse 13, and Adventure Time. Oh and I play D&D occasionally, when I can find enough people who also enjoy it.

I beg you, don't give up on Doctor Who! Tennant was my favorite Doctor, too, and I swore I wouldn't like Matt Smith, but I love him almost as much now as I do David. He really grows on you.

I signed up because I was skulking about the internet looking for Gothic maternity stuff, or a Gothic pregnancy forum. I found some awesome suggestions for maternity clothes, but no group or forum to be found. So then I found this place. I read the forum rules and the intro rules, and laughed so much I couldn't resist the appeal or snarkery, humor, and joking about.

Thank you, I spent a very long time trying to think of some name that wasn't incredibly lame, or so pompous that my ass was charred within a few seconds of clicking the submit button.

I wanted to add it in I saw you mention it, but I felt that it was silly to do so at this point. Also the edit button disappeared on mine as well. I agree with you on the more "out there" types, I knew a few that would ramble on and on about all sorts of New Age stuff, when it just sounded more and more insane as they went. I have felt drawn to Loki, as well as Spiritual Satanism (but I don't have all the kinks worked out, so I just study and learn all I can). TV witches, Wiccans, and Pagans always annoy me, the cinematic effects are cool, but it just sets you up for disillusionment and giving up once you don't slay demons all the time or shoot lightening from your fingers.

I also have struggled to find enough people locally to play D&D with, or one of my other favorite games Arkham Horror. I like to play some video games like Katamari Damacy, Skyrim, Fable 2, or even Animal Crossing (it might be a kids game but it is fun, and addictive).

Do you mean the BBC Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch? We love that show too. I also like other shows like The Big Bang Theory, Men at Work, Community, Suburgatory, and some cooking shows too. I have watched Warehouse 13 in the past, but not in a few years now. We only get to watch things online these days, no cable.

I will try not to give up on Doctor Who, I really liked the show. Maybe I will give it another shot. Thanks for the encouragement If you are looking for new reading material, I suggest Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia. It is about humans who fight monsters and is action packed, but I thought it was a good read. Have you read any Kim Harrison? There are also vampires in her book series as well. I have also read the Mercy Thompson series, about a skin-walker who has to deal with all sorts of stuff including werewolves, vampires, fey, and other supernatural beings.

Give me a fucking break. At least pretend you're not a dick, or leave us alone. We were having quite a nice time without you.

Ahem. Anyway, yes, I've read part of one Kim Harrison book. I found it at a yard sale. It wasn't the first in a series, but I gave it a shot to see if I liked her style. I finished three or four chapters. It wasn't awful, but I didn't like it. It seemed...immature, I guess. I can't quite put my finger on it. It was like I was watching a stupid frat-boy comedy movie when I was looking for a deep, complex drama...if that makes any sense.

And I did mean the BBC Sherlock. I love it. I didn't think of Community or The Big Bang Theory when I was listing shows, but I like those too (even if TBBT tries too hard to sound "smart" sometimes).

I was disappointed he didn't also try and scare us both off with some obscure band reference or telling you that your profile picture didn't have enough blood or angst in it to count as Goth "enough".

Well, the first few books in the Kim Harrison series are not as bad, I enjoyed the humor and whatnot, I was told that some of her later books digressed into soft core porn. Which was not really what I was looking for either, so I just pretend there are only a couple books, and lament the series ever finishing. Your analogy does make sense, which is why I struggle to find books I enjoy reading.

I enjoy Sheldon Cooper as a way to encourage me to learn more. I actually learned in my college psychology class about B.F. Skinner after seeing it referenced in TBBT.

I'd say the majority of the regulars here aren't goth anymore, including Alan so its probably not that. Maybe the pagan thing? We have a few militant atheists around.

But yeah, you shouldn't care about anyone judging you for not being goth. We're kinda grown out of it.

The fact that that's what comes to your mind with my post is precisely the reason why you won't last here.
Just like how MommyDarkest feels all baddass about not 'participating in the goth pissing contest' when in fact you're the only ones that care about the darkness shtick.

Yeah, if you've read the stickys lately, its no wonder why some people think that we're elitist goths or why we attract the "IM SO DARK AND GLOOMY" types. Hell, the stickys think Goth With A Sledgehammer was a good thing.

Plus don't forget, we only very recently shut down the "THOSE BANDS ARENT GOTH" welcome wagon.

In other words, they seem nice enough, lets keep them.

They should put me in charge, my intro sticky will have questions like "Do you believe we live in a post-racial society? What are your preferred gender pronouns?"

I don't think she ever said or implied that she felt like a badass, you made assumptions just as we did. But come on. Look at the theme for the site. The descriptions for the subforums. The stickies. Everything is "OMG SO GOTH" to the point of parody. When you say something like "You guys won't last here" while providing no clarification, what else are we supposed to think? We're new, that's why we're posting introductions. Maybe, rather than leaving vague one-line responses, you could explain a bit about the atmosphere of this community so we could undrstand how exactly we don't fit in.

TL;DR: It's not that we care about the "darkness". We assumed you did because you didnt't tell us otherwise.

On another, nicer note, thank you Saya. You seem very rational and understanding and I like you.

If the Pagan thing was the point, then I don't mind. I really doubt we're the only ones here. I don't mind atheists, either. Militant atheists are just as bad as fanatical Christians, but I deal with those on a dailyy basis where I live so I can tolerate it. I actually agree with atheists about a lot of things. Maybe I'm technically "agnostic leaning toward pagan" or something. Either way, it's my faith, so fuck anyone who gets all bent out of shape over it.

Besides, I'm not all loony and in-your-face about it. I'm not gonna tell someone who just got robbed to use sage and quartz to cleanse their houses, or try to convince a sick person to "attune their chakras" so they feel better. I'm gonna tell those people to go to police and the doctor, respectively. People would never know I'm pagan unless they asked, or came back to this thread and read it. I just thought I should put it out there.

Thank you for the warning, though. Every community has their share of assholes. Good to know this one is no different.

Alan isn't an asshole; he's our ferryman.

Also, the edit button disappears after 7 minutes. Anything that is posted will stay posted.

I try to avoid g.net when I drink for this reason.

well, after taking a few days to try and understand exactly how this was all mixed up, I wanted to come back and check things out. Alan, I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you or appear bad-ass. I was merely defending her and I against what seemed like an unwarranted "here is the door, get out" attitude.

I hope to still be able to get to know people on this site, and possibly make some friends. If religious beliefs are what get your motors pissed off, I should hope it can just be a topic that doesn't need to be dissected.

Mortelle/Rose, I would still love to hear more of your opinions and enjoyed hobbies. You seem really interesting, and I would like to keep talking.

I don't know if it's really the pagan thing, I mean.. I'm pagan and I've never found that anyone here had an issue with that.

Then again, I don't really do the cultural appropriation thing that seems to go hand-in-hand with a lot of paganism.

Could we please keep the stereo-typing, insensitive comments about self-injury and mental illness to a minimum?

Thanks.

It's almost as if the way you remain aware of the people around you and how your actions and words effect them is related to how they treat you.

I don't get it.
