what the hell is wrong with....
..... the public schools and the idiots that run them?!
We put something like, what? Three fifths of our income as a country into public schools that keep getting worse in academics and in general. When not more than 30 years ago we had the highest grade scores and not dumping nearly as much money into our schools? What is wrong. We changed something in the past 30 years that we need to fix.

Public schools in the States are way underfunded, and Bush's "No Child Left Behind" created so many problems it's ridiculous.

American public schools have a way of disenfranchising their smartest students by repeatedly showing that they only value sports and 'school spirit'. So in other words, they don't care how smart you are so much as how well you follow the rules and make the school look good so it can continue to make money. Our school was fairly new so the governer and the mayor came a few times... they put the school on lockdown and wouldn't let us go to lunch because of it.
We put together a young Socialists club my senior year, and the only teacher that would sponser us had already been asked to resign by the end of the year. BEST YEARBOOK PHOTO EVER.

That's because schools aren't supposed to educate your kids here. As George Carlin said so well, "They don't want intelligent people, do you know what they want? OBEDIENT WORKERS"

Historically that's completely accurate. Public schools arose from the victorians who wanted to raise an obediant workforce instead of dealing with the largely immagrant working class who would show up tyo work drunk, or no one would show up tp work because it was nice outside and they desearved a break, or thy would take a bunch of "St. Monday's" becasue they had been drinking all weekend, which was perfectly acceptable in their home countries because they had task-oriented work rather than time oriented work days.
Think back to kindergarten. What are the very first ideas they get into your head? Stand in line, sit down quietly, do what you're told.

Wow that made me crack up.
Believe it or not homelitexl, it's not hard to tell you're not well educated....
Then again, you are from Arkansas, so who knows, maybe you're #1 in the class...

It's about obedience, not education.

I guess my education was just a lot different from yours, after all I did go to one of the best school systems in the country, sure we had to be respectful of our teachers but disobedience wasn't punished nearly as harshly as apathy and willful ignorance, at least up through middle school. Once I got to high school all of my classes were more advanced than the standard level for my grade so there were very few students who didn't actually are about the subject matter and as such there really wasn't much apathy or willful ignorance, there were plenty of spirited debates though, I even won a few against my teachers, some of whom were rather proud to see their student do so well, others were a less than thrilled to have their ego bruised by a 15 kid.
College on the other hand has been far more about obedience, at least as far as gen eds are concerned, the psych department is pretty stellar and I got away with a lot in my upper levels, same goes for comm, social work not so much, I can't really comment on the other departments as those are the only ones that I took upper levels in.
