Deadmanwalking - What about the people doing it the legal way? Good for them. The issue is the people that cannot do it "legally".
I don't know that you're in much of a position to say whether or not they are allowed to leave their country and enter yours. Not until you've maybe experienced the life they have to live. Did you even read my post before you quoted it? It isn't so easy for people to leave their countries. In fact, it's virtually impossible in some countries. As I said, I don't know exactly how hard it is for people in desperate need to leave Mexico or South America but it probably isn't as easy as you seem to think it is.
How do you suggest they do it legally? I'd like to know. Probably so would they.
I don't know if you realise but a lot of "legal immigrants" may enter a country legally, then overstay their visa which then makes them illegal immigrants. The amount of people that do that here is extremely high compared to the amount of asylum seekers that end up here.
I'd say that'd happen a lot there too. But so what? You're a strong, rich nation aren't you? Help a brother out.
