Reading up on the History of Honda ATV's

Interesting bit on the model I'm trying to restore.

1988 FourTrax 300
On the eve of the '90s, Honda introduced the 1988 FourTrax 300 and FourTrax 300 4x4, the revolutionary pair of hard working Hondas that would ultimately become the most versatile, most popular ATVs in history. Combining an ideal balance of size, weight, power and capacity, the 300s sold more than 530,000 units over the ensuing 12 years. Powered by an 282cc air-cooled, four-stroke single-cylinder engine, the FourTrax 300 sent its 20 horsepower through a five-speed transmission, automatic clutch and maintenance-free shaft drive. An ultra-low first gear helped it tow up to 850 pounds. Tough steel racks let it carry up to 66 pounds in front and 132 pounds in the rear. And if the hardest working ATV in America ended up packing tackle to your favorite bass fishing spot on Saturday morning, nobody else had to know.
From copper mines to banana plantations, golf courses to pig farms, forest reclamation projects to shopping center maintenance, nothing on wheels had ever been as versatile, reliable, efficient and affordable, on the job or on the weekend, as the ATV.
1989 FourTrax 300 4x4
Industry observers estimate that 85 percent of ATV use in the '90s revolved around some sort of enterprise. Mr. Takeuchi's idea had grown up, gone to work and done a good job. When asked what products had the greatest impact on their farming operations since 1967, the readers of Farm Industry News ranked the Honda ATV right up there with Dekalb Biotype E Sorghum, A3127 Hybrid Soybeans and the Miller Electric Mig Welder as a landmark product of the last 25 years. That's high praise from one of the most brutally sensible groups of people on the planet.
In America, having an ATV on the job makes a host of jobs more efficient. In countries without our infrastructure, manpower and financial resources, ATV's reliability and efficiency handle jobs that simply couldn't be done before. Folks on other parts of the planet were discovering what America had discovered a decade before, and began putting ATVs to work, performing all manner of work that was either impossible, impractical or both. Whereas Honda ATVs were largely a domestic phenomenon before 1990, they're currently working in more than 35 different countries worldwide.

Wishing I had cookies and hoping my strong cocktail won't be a regret come wake-up time. At least school's done for now.

Honeythorn, I think the pet rocks would be a splendid idea! Make a whole family of them! Give them to all the Dads you know! (if you celebrate Father's Day in the UK?)

I wish I had more exciting news to share but I'm just sitting here in my favorite little black cotton dress with my cell phone in the crazy cleavage 'cuz there's no pockets. Drinking my iced coffee + trying to decide what to do with my hair + makeup. Will be meeting up with a girl friend later today for coffee + a photo walk + she always has the best outfits + makeup + there's a little voice in my head saying mean things to me about that

Just got done watching a broadcast of the opening game of the World Cup Soccer Tournament featuring Mexico versus host nation South Africa (it may have been a rebroadcast, I'm not sure.) How exciting!

It was thrilling to see the South Africans score the first goal of the tournament midway through the game ... what an electric moment for the hosting country and the largely partisan crowd, for a team that was only welcomed back into World Cup play a short 16 years ago. The game ended up tied at 1 all, but it was a fun game to watch and a fine warm up for the United States versus England match tomorrow afternoon.

And, what is up with those high pitched horns the South Africans were constantly honking on? The sound of a whole stadium playing those things made it seem like a swarm of hundreds of 10 foot mosquitoes were hovering over the place for the whole match!

Anyway, what fun!

Also, lots of promotion of the movie The Last Airbender, including ESPN's Airbending Play of the Day (cute). It got me very interested in seeing that movie!

Sitting up at 5:00 AM posting on Gnet. I'm on a laptop, without good speakers with which to listen to music, and all I can say I did today was screw. That, and play FFIV Advance. Man, I didn't even eat dinner.... unless you count Mountain Dew, cherry sours, and a Snickers.

AND I JUST REALIZED I forgot to tell John about that reference to The Principia Discordia on Jay Leno....

Taking a break from working on a large Conte drawing of a mini rose, and catching up on World Cup stuff, and about to see if I can find a video clip of a Buzkashi game.

Watching the comedy central special Lewis Black: Stark Raving Black and wondering if I should drink beer tonight or start looking at the booze and mixers.

Lewis Black is awesome. My friend (the lucky bum) got to see him live, front row, just off centre, which is apparently the best spot, since he spits a lot as he talks on the people sitting dead centre.

Pounding down cold beers and laughing at the utter stupidity of my cowokers as they argue, and very seriously I might add, over who just farted and killed the mood.

Trying to shake off the effects of Team USA getting robbed of the winning goal by a bad referee call in their World Cup match.
