Someone suggest me some anime.
I'm currently watching Utawarerumono. I rather enjoy it.
Some other animes I like include: Elfen Lied, Noir, Lain, Evangelion, Habani Renmei, Gunslinger Girl, Bible Black, and Gasaraki.
I Anything similiar to the above would work well. Thing is I don't really care for stuff that has typical yet appearing random charachters. I like casts that fall in line with the story and not just totally odd.

Death Note is a great one to watch its all about intellect detective stuff but its very intresting. Also try Trigun, Bleach, Witch Hunter Robin.

I hate Death Note, hate Trigun, and hate Bleach. Never seen Witch Hunter Robin, what is it about?
I'm going to look up La Petite cossete. It sounds like it could be intresting.

I've seen so much anime that it's gotten to point where most of it just sort of fuses together in my memory so I'll just recommend some that I can actualy pick out and remember. They are in no particular order.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien
I'm not going to tell you anything about this one as it would likely spoil it.
Monster
A japanese surgeon working in Germany tracks down a killer that he saved the life of. Probably the longest series I've ever watched but really grips you till the end (except for about six episods before the final two, they kinda drag a bit).
Cromartie High School
Follows the only decent and sane student in a school of delinquents, one of the funniest series I've ever watched.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Hard to explain what it's about, lots of murder though, you just have to watch it.
Macross 7
A rock band on a colony ship in space fight aliens with music, yeah I thought it sounded stupid too but it actually works, much better than it should have ever been. Don't bother if you don't like mechs.
Zero no Tsukaima
Amoungst my favourite series of all time and I'm eagerly awaiting the third series. A girl in a magic school in some kind of fantasy world summons a boy from Japan as her familiar by accident.
That's probably enough for now, if you need any more just ask. If you want any specific genres or anything it might make finding stuff easier as I was just listing things as they came to me so I can't garantee you'll like any of them.
