Shariah Law.
A rather hot issue in British politics at the moment is regarding the Archbishop of Canterbury's suggestion of integrating Shariah Law into our system. While the premise of having two law systems is in a country for different people is absurd in itself as an idea, when the second law cites the punishment for adultery as flogging or even STONING TO DEATH (and yes, this is still happening today in Islamic countries), how the hell can you consider that legal framework? Shariah law is a series of Islamic domestic laws, and as with all other Judaic religions, it is unbelievably misogynistic and bigoted. Womens rights are sub-zero (you can be flogged for being *****. Do the mathematics for that funny little conundrum) and non-muslims are heavily discriminated against.
I think that the term for this ridiculous idea is "Culture-melding gone insane".
Also, many Muslim immigrants into this country emigrate to escape the absurdly vicious and violent laws in practice over there and we want to enforce them here? Personally, I think that this is exactly the reason why every country in the world needs a strict separation of church and state.
One law for all.
All equal before the law.

They implement Sharia here and I'm fucking leaving the country. No wait, I've read that bits of it are already in place.
So I'll amend the statement to: Sharia can suck my ballsies.

Some of then emigrate to get the fuck out of Muslim countries for they reject Islam and can get murdered for saying so.

Dumbass idea. Even more idiotic than the states trying to outlaw fast food.
Guh, people are dumb.

I haven't been keeping up with the news recently so this is the first I've heard of this. I just have to say that it's rediculous, religion has no place dictating the laws of a country least of all this Shariah law. I can't even fathom why anyone thought this might be a good idea.

Madness. Two kinds of law in one country?
That's fully stupid. What regular law isn't good enough?

Unfucking real. Seeing Europe play this much of a bitch to Islamic insanity is enough to make even a guy like me want to go hide behind Bill O'Reilly.
Fortunately, at least some Europeans are waking up to the fact that Islam is using the West's best characteristics - values of freedom, individual rights, and tolerance - against it for the explicit purpose of tearing down those very principles.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=j0jUuzdfqfc
You thought the "culture war" with nutjob Christians was bad. Wait till the Muslims get their shot at destroying everything beautiful in the human spirit.
It's time for the West to WAKE THE FUCK UP and realize that tolerance does not mean submission. Word choice intentional.

Okay, well none of the news outlets I have checked were terribly clear about exactly what the dude meant, but I get the impression that the reason they weren't very clear was that he wasn't very clear himself.
Anyway, it appears that he was indeed talking about legislation accomodating Shariah law, but only with respect to certain areas (divorce, for example) and only for those who opt in.
Presumably the U.K. is like the United States in that people have a fairly wide degree of latitude to make up their own terms to govern their personal and business relationships by way of agreements to enter into binding arbitration, prenuptial agreements and so forth. I can't see why that freedom shouldn't be used by consenting parties to apply Shariah principles.
Obviously, I would stand against those principles getting into the legal code proper. It sounds like that puts me on the opposite side of the table as the Archbishop of Canterbury (what a surprise!). But at least the guy wasn't advocating a full blown parallel legal system, along with all of Shariah's spectacular barbarism.

If you allow parts of an utterly barbaric legal framework to permeate another, well-thought out and fully-functional legal system, it's only a matter of time before more and more aspects are transferred over, and more and more religious people of all monotheistic walks decide that they want a play in the corrupting of British law.

Fuck off will they allow Shariah Law....if these people don't like the way Britain is run they shouldn't have moved here. FACT!
I don't mind people moving here if they accept that our country is run a different way to theirs. That suggestion takes the piss.

I love this forum. People are so level-headed here.
On another forum a Muslim tried to tell me that A) Islam is not misogynistic (I responded with 'HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!') and B) It's alright to flog women, it's for the greater good.
Humans annoy me.

That's a misconception. It's the shoving their head in the sand and throwing rocks at them until they're dead that really gets them horny.

Yeah, they try to keep it as laconic as possible. Syllables are nobody's friend.
